“We, Inc.” Starts with “You, Inc”
Before revealing what “We, Inc.” is and how it works, it is first important to understand “You, Inc.”
The internet age is changing the face of business.  Entrepreneurs who were once limited to building a business in a limited geographical area are now working in a global marketplace.  Of course, they must also contend with the fact that their competition is global, as well.  This means if you are doing business on the internet you have to get very clear on who you are, what you are offering, and who you are offering it to.
In many cases the only thing differentiating you from another marketer is just that…YOU!
This is especially true if you are in direct sales, affiliate marketing or network marketing.  The product doesn’t vary from one distributor to the next, but what you can bring to the table in terms of support and guidance does.
Several training systems have coined the phrase, “You, Inc.” to reflect the fact that you must demonstrate to your potential customers and business partners why you are their best choice.
But many people think “You, Inc.” means you have to do it all by yourself.  In reality, the internet has allowed the business landscape to evolve in new and exciting ways which make it possible for you to share the workload with others.  Collaboration is rapidly becoming THE way to do business, because it offers a way to leverage your efforts while still maintaining a sense of individuality.
Why “You, Inc.” Doesn’t Work for Many People
A common mistake some internet marketers make when trying to define their “You, Inc.” is they try to be all things to all people.  They want to present themselves as the expert on everything from affiliate marketing to email campaigns to websites.  All this while still trying to promote their primary business.
The truth of the matter is, no one can know everything, and to try to cover all the bases makes them an expert at nothing.
These marketers get lost in a sea of other marketers trying to make a splash while shouting the same message.  You can avoid this costly mistake by understanding how collaboration among entrepreneurs is being used effectively in the internet age.
“We, Inc.” Leverages the Power of “You, Inc.” to Make it Work for You
One of the ultimate goals in business is to achieve leverage.
You achieve leverage when your efforts are matched, and even surpassed, by the efforts of others and those efforts benefit you directly.  By the way, the internet can be included in this, because it is something other than you which is creating this leverage for you.  Your goal is to maximize your leverage in everything you do.
“You, Inc” is a great starting point, because it helps to define your niche.
Your niche is your specialty, or what makes you unique.  If you don’t have a Unique Selling Proposition yet, then you’d better get one, and fast.  Once you’ve figured out what your “You, Inc.” really is, it is time maximize your leverage with it, and make it work for you.
A great way to do this is to collaborate with others.
By teaming up with other “You, Inc.” people, collectively you create “We, Inc.”, and it is the ultimate leverage tool for internet marketers, when done properly.  There are some key points to follow:
Everyone’s “You, Inc” fits into the overall “We, Inc.” vision – For example, having a motocross expert team up with a group of basket weavers won’t make much sense, unless he is weaving his own helmets.
Each “You, Inc.” must contribute to the “We, Inc.” effort –  For the group to work, everyone must pull their weight, and add to the efforts of the whole.  If everyone does this, the whole will equal more than the sum of the parts.
“We, Inc.” Must Allow Every “You, Inc.” to Shine – In the internet age, branding is everything.  Association with the larger group must result in a direct benefit for each “You, Inc.” involved, by allowing each member to market themselves and their business to the larger community.
“We, Inc.” maximizes leverage for everyone involved, and the benefits achieved will far outweigh what can be achieved individually.
Each “You, Inc.” gains more exposure and credibility through the association with the “We, Inc.” collaborative model.  Therefore, “We, Inc.” will have more to offer the end-user because of the specialized talent being pooled together to create a stronger end product.
Look around and you’ll notice it happening more and more today.
Authors are writing individual chapters for books, coaching programs are creating pools of specialized coaches to choose from, and network marketers from different companies are working together to maximize both their results and the benefits to the end users.
I have realized that everything I am working on is an example of “We, Inc.” model:
The Renegade Super Guides program
The Coaching Cognition program
My own Renegade Referrals program
All of the aforementioned are built upon the principle of uniting like-minded specialists, and exemplify the transformation of the “You, Inc” model into the “We Inc” model.

  1. Hi, coaching is talked about everywhere it seems these days. Our President in his first ‘State of the Union’ speech talked about the need of 100,000 coaches needed now. Even Tiger has had coaches. What a project to get started in the ‘Renegade’ world. I’m surprised that I’m making what appears to be the firest comment. I think we all should be shouting it from the top of every hill, now. Come take a look and join us now. I’ve been in sales for over 40 yrs and have never had a coach, I’ve done what could be considered coaching all thru those years without anyone ever talking about what coaching is or how good or bad the coaching was. I joined the International Coaching Assocation several years ago and I have no idea what they do, why because it wasn’t about my coaching it was what they thought it was, are we going to change that?
Can’t wait for all this to get going. Thanks Mike and Ann your efforts could change everthing. MJ

  2. Lane,

Your presentation of “We, Inc” is such a great conceptualization of a manner of collaborating, branding and working that many of us have been doing for a long time. But you have put into very concrete words and a concrete form with the development of Renegade Referrals.

Collaboration, coaching with a true emphasis on the needs of others, entrepreneurship and long term residual income in my opinion will form the corner stones of the 21st Century Economy. “We, Inc” encompasses all of that.

  3. Lane & company,

This mindset is a tremendously needed part of the puzzle that has caused many well meaning internet marketers to struggle & spin their wheels.

As an experienced coach & trainer to the network marketing industry for several years I know the real deal when I see it.

What you have put together is destined to be internationally renowned for the growth & success to the hordes of people in every aspect of the network marketing indusrty looking for help to experience greater levels of success.

I especially like the subheading “We, Inc.” Leverages the Power of “You, Inc.” to Make it Work for You.

This sums up the tremendous benefit of associating with & connecting to those with an abundance mindset built on the principles of integrity.

I’m honored to be apart of the founding group of Business Builders in Renegade Referrals , A Fellow Super Guide , Trainer & Coach working with & learning from you Lane.

  4. Lane, you are so on top of this concept — I know you have been talking about this for some time now, and you express it so well. Any one of us is capable of doing great things. But together, we can do something AMAZING.

I love the new ways that our community is able to interact with one another – find each other, support each other, learn from each other and collaborate.

It’s exciting to see the leaders that are emerging from this program and to be able to watch them flourish.

I’m with Marshall…we should all be shouting from the hilltops and mountaintops and beyond. WE have arrived!

  5. Someone asked me the other day, “Isn’t ‘We, Inc.’ the same thing as…a corporation?” In other words, isn’t a corporation just a grouping of individuals coming together to work on a common vision, and the whole is greater than the sum of its parts?

Well, this is partially true, but “We, Inc.” differs from a traditional corporate business model in a very important way. The leverage goes BOTH ways in “We, Inc.”. That is, the group benefits from the collective efforts of the individuals within it, and the individuals leverage their individual projects through their association with the group.

As I stated above, if the individual isn’t given the platform to shine in some way through their association with the group, then it is not what I would consider “We, Inc.”

From what I’ve seen so far, the Coaching Cognition and Super Guides programs certainly qualify. Of course, I am making every effort to ensure that Renegade Referrals adheres to these same standards.

“We, Inc.” IS the next phase in the evolution of how business is being done. WE has arrived! (and that IS proper grammar)

  6. Hi Lane,

It has been wonderful to be part of a group of people all with a common goal. You, Inc can be such a lonely place, not to mention so much harder. When a bunch of people all come together for one goal, the outcome is so much greater. I love being a member of We, Inc.

    Thanks for the inspiration, Lane.

  7. Hey Lane:

    Love your message here.

You lay it out so clearly for us – many thanks for that.

WARREN BUFFET is quoted as saying…

    – “There is no such thing as a SELF-made millionaire”.

NAPOLEON HILL (’Think And Grow Rich’) has said…

    – “We need the support and leadership from a TEAM of people who see the same vision that we do – our MASTERMIND group.

When we reach larger and larger levels success and prosperity, it virtually impossible for us to be a ONE PERSON show (YOU, Inc).

WE, Inc is indeed about COLLABORATION and the beauty of LEVERAGE – but it also needs to be about OPTIMIZATION (the extended economy of ‘time’).

    Great comments above.

    Sincerely / Peter A.

  8. Hi Lane “We, Inc.” is such a beautiful concept. I was first introduced to it as a therapist and found it particularly powerful when working with couples.

I love the way you have described the concept so clearly to show how it is applicable to the business world, the internet and Renegade. I found your point that ‘everyone must pull their weight, and add to the value of the whole’ particularly valuable when thinking in terms of JV partnerships.

Thank you Lane for a wonderful, thought provoking start to Conversation Corner.

  9. I look at “We Inc” as the true definition of network marketing. The rewards do flow down as well as up and although they may not be monetarily visible, what is being shared is priceless.

  10. Lane – Excellent information to get us thinking! 2 + 2 = 5, the sum is always greater than its parts. I agree with Warren when he says: What you have put together is destined to be internationally renowned for the growth & success to the hordes of people…”

  11. Lane and team,
Congratulations on “We Inc” I know that this concept has been in the works for some time and now is your time, like a fine wine…

Focusing on the needs of others before self is the Renegade way and you have all done this so well, bringing people and purpose together to benefit all.

I look forward to “We Inc” growing and shining.

You have taken the Renegade creed of providing value information and assistance to other to, “We Inc” provides value and assistance through a team of people who are experts in their own right.

  13. Lane, you articulated “We, Inc.” well defining the collaboration of the Renegade Super Guides program, the Coaching Cognition program, and your Renegade Referrals program. From individuals, to an actual program, wow.

In the past, my experience with collaboration in a group was really effective when people just listened to each other first and just brainstormed. That is one of my favorite stages of the collaborative process. The creativity that comes out is so fun. The “We, Inc.” makes work fulfilling.

Thanks for writing this article, Lane.

  14. Lane,
Great job communicating these concepts – you are exactly right.

The real power and leverage comes from joining with other like-minded individuals all pulling toward a common goal.

It may be possible to make progress, maybe even enough progress, working alone … but with the solo approach, success is either unlikely or very tiring!

A quick comment about the corporation question you fielded. First, I agree with you that it is NOT the same thing. “Corporation” does not equate with “We, Inc.” in so many areas.

I just wanted to share one idea on that topic.

Corporations are often a ‘zero sum’ game, meaning that for one individual to do better, another has to do worse. Raises, promotions, and other examples are easy to see.

In “We, Inc.”, one individual doing better creates a better reality for another individual. Co-authoring, Group publicity with individuals highlighted, and other examples are easy to see. Completely different approach, and outcome.

Personally, I am actively looking for “We, Inc.” opportunities!
(and happy to be part of the Renegade Community)

  15. Great article about the benefits of teaming up versus going it alone. I’m reminded of a saying ‘a team is greater than the sum of it’s parts’.

You also give some good boundaries that will help avoid misunderstanding and contribute to working effectively.

    Comment by Dianne Thomsen — September 28, 2009 @ 4:43 pm

  16. @Peter: You make a great point about optimization. It is an important aspect of the “We, Inc.” model, because it eliminates a lot of the redundancy which inevitably comes from many individuals applying the “You, Inc.” concepts to their own businesses.

@Kisane: I would like to learn more about how this concept was introduced to you as a therapist. Was the term, “We, Inc.” actually used, and was it in the same way? I would not be surprised if my idea was already out there, in some form or another. I just hadn’t seen it expressed in this way before.

@Michael: If you are truly interested in a “We, Inc.” opportunity, you would always be welcome over at Renegade Referrals. We should talk soon.

I think it will be helpful to create a short video presentation of the “We, Inc.” concept, in order to illustrate the difference between it and the standard corporate, “zero-sum” model. I will do that soon, and post a link here when it is done.

  17. Lane,

What a super job of explaining ‘We Inc’. What I particularly like is how you explained the point of difference between our version of ‘We Inc’ compared to that in a corporation. I hadn’t even thought of comparing the two but it was a good question that was asked.

I think for many of us, although we have mostly worked with other people in our traditional jobs, hardly any of us have worked with others to benefit and support each other. We were a bunch of individuals who just happened to work together but not to help each other move forward in the organization.

‘We Inc’ as we are embracing it is far greater than many might think possible and I would also imagine that there might be some skeptics out there. All I can say is ‘Watch this space’ because the sum of our parts is so much greater than our individual selves.

    ‘We Inc’ has arrived:)

  18. The neat thing about Renegade Referrals is the trust in each other and value-based marketing developed in the process of “WE INC”.

Imagine how positive the experience will be to say to the prospect you are engaging with: “you know, I think your needs will be better met working with…let me know how that works out.” !

I think it will be a first time ever and this kind of value marketing will get leverage.

thanks Lane and team for making it happen.

  19. This is the great thing about the internet and how it has changed traditional business structures. Everyone now has the option of participating in a collaborative effort with like minded individuals of there choice.

Yes building your YOU,Inc is a necessary task when branding yourself as a leader. But the ultimate success comes from bringing like minded together WE,Inc as you say.

From here it’s then a communicative process of moving these like minds in a positive or could be negative, direction to the desired goal of the group.

No one person can do everything, but by collaborating and leveraging individual talents of the group WE,Inc can move mountains.

  22. It would seem that this recession has brought about a lot of soul searching by a lot of people. Their confidence has been knocked, their belief in the ‘normal’ structures such as government, waged work, banks has been severely tested, and people have become very concerned about what to believe, and who to trust. The supposed experts are now being exposed as ordinary people, and hopefully the ordinary people will start to see that their ideas, skills and opinions have value.

    Comment by Mary Speller — October 30, 2009 @ 9:38 pm

  23. Hi Lane & Co,
You show that there is no contradiction in being all “You Inc.” and at the same time being committed to, contributing and working in “We Inc.”. It is even the contrary. You need to be your true self and being that find the perfect match and then develop together. I love it the way you put the words. Being a coach in the non-virtual world I am pritty much living that concept without having it labeled in this great way. But on the internet I still have to learn a lot to be that, too. So thanks again
