In what ways would you benefit from learning more about how you make decisions?  Sometimes, we have difficulty in this area because we face so much pressure from our environment that pulls us in directions that might take us further from our personal goals.

We feel like we should do this, or ought to do that, and in all of the madness of trying to live up to what other people think will make us successful, we forget the most important piece of the puzzle:  What do YOU want?

Morris Fisher, a student of the Coaching Cognition Certification Program, had to discover this “the hard way”.  In his early years, he didn’t have the community that he now enjoys through Coaching Cognition.

But now, his life experiences serve as first-hand verification of what he is learning from his community.  In fact, he has been learning many things through Coaching Cognition that he didn’t realize until now that he already knew!   Through the power of the coaching process, his own inner strengths and knowledge have surfaced in a way that benefits and fulfills him.

Coaching gave him the tools required for utilizing these strengths to give his life new meaning and passion.  Because of the personal strides he has made through learning about coaching and through peer coaching (where students coach each other), he has decided to share this empowering gift with others by becoming a coach himself.  Morris shares the opinion that you have to really know yourself before you can be of help to others.  Now, he is in a position that allows him to share his experiences so that others may also discover the art of knowing yourself.

One of the many ways Morris has chosen to share his wisdom has been to develop a framework from which people can make fulfilling decisions based on who they really are.

What do words like intimacy… worthiness… and significance mean to you?  Are you comfortable sharing your true self with others?  Do you understand what it means to have the right to your own time and space?  Do you feel as though your life has meaning (for yourself and others)?  How do these questions relate to making decisions?

In what Morris calls the “Three Pillars of Decision-Making”, he explains these concepts and how they directly affect the level of fulfillment you experience with every decision you make.  In our interview (below), Morris discusses the pillars in more detail and explains how you can apply this model to your own life.  You can also access more information about it on his blog at www.morrisfisherblog.com.

If you are interested in learning more about the coaching process and how you can enrich your life and business by hiring a coach, log into your back office and click on the Coaches icon to access the Coaching Cognition ‘beta version’ website.

Of course, don’t forget to stay tuned for the grand opening of the brand new Coaching Cognition website.  The first ‘unveiling’ of the site will happen at the Live Event in Portland, June 2010!

Dr. Jim Parks

Dr. Jim Parks

I just had the pleasure of interviewing a student of our Coaching Cognition Certification Program, Dr. Jim Parks.  Jim has a strong educational background in psychology with a Masters in Clinical Psychology and a PhD in Industrial/Organizational Psychology.  His career path has led him in many fascinating directions, from teaching at the University level to law enforcement.

This background has provided Jim with formalized training in human behavior, which applies directly to his coaching studies and practice now.   However, as Jim tells us in our interview, we are ALL experts on human behavior, we just don’t know it!

Jim Parks’ attitude about coaching is one of great fulfillment.  He has been involved in the counseling world for so long that he enjoys the action-oriented method of coaching.  Where counseling focuses on thought processes, emotion, and working through past issues to bring you to where you feel you ‘should’ be today, coaching encourages you to start taking ACTION today to bring you closer to where you want to be tomorrow.  In Jim’s experience, coaching people helps them reach their goals faster.  He has now seen it work within 6-8 sessions, and even in as little 2-3 sessions!

In our interview, Jim gives a great example of how a bottle was getting in the way of the dreams of someone he knows, and how coaching and a 5 hour car ride helped this person take action and move forward.

Jim Parks has embraced his training with Coaching Cognition in a way that benefits his fellow students as well!  He organized a series of student led calls that will allow students, including himself, to recognize when they are exhibiting the ability to cover the coaching competencies set forth by the International Coaching Federation (ICF).  He talks about this in more detail in our interview.

Because if this initiative that he has taken, Jim Parks has now been asked to collaborate with us on our advanced level training at Coaching Cognition, which is currently being developed.

Dr. Jim Parks is certainly a name to be watching out for.  His ability to find value in his training and use it to provide even more value to his community is admirable to say the least.  This tells us that the name Dr. Jim Parks is an immediate indication that incredible value is within close reach.  To learn more about Jim, visit his blog at www.drjimparkscoaching.com and listen to his interview below.

  2. Thank you very much Jim, for your insights about the benefits of coaching. As you said, learning how to coach can be used by many people to help people grow. I shall be using coaching for my network marketing business. I have also found it useful helping a friend get through a marriage bust-up – rather that ‘giving advice’which is a normal instinct for a friend to provide, my caoching learning has helped to shine my light for my friend to work out what she wants. Coaching Cognition is one of the best things that I have done.

  3. Helen,
Coaching skills can be used in so many ways as you have pointed out. To be able to add value to another persons life is fulfilling in so many different ways. There is no doubt that acquiring these skills would be extremely beneficial for anyone in the people helping profession.

Coaching Cognition is moving forward, and we are taking everyone with us!  There are many exciting updates, so let’s jump right in!

Our students who are in the basic coaching training program here at Coaching Cognition are going to be graduating soon.   So we’d like to give an early congrats for being so very close to earning your well-deserved certification through Coaching Cognition!

Are you interested in becoming certified through Coaching Cognition?  Do you want to learn coaching skills that can be used in life and business, such as team-building, leadership, employee management, goal setting, and customer relation skills?  Stay tuned for more information on when the next basic training classes begin.  We will definitely keep you posted.

For our students, we have decided to extend the small group coaching sessions for another 10 weeks.  It is still completely optional, but will be a great value for those of you who are ready to get started with Coaching Cognition as a coach, or who want to simply keep up the forward pace before the next round of training begins.

The advanced coaching classes are currently being developed and it is going to be huge!  If you feel like you are getting a lot out of the basic training, wait until you see what we are cooking up for the advanced training!  More details to come, so keep an eye out.

The coaching training program is now officially under review for accreditation through the International Coach Federation (ICF).  Coaching Cognition is now listed on the ICF website as ‘pending’ accreditation.  This is a giant step for Coaching Cognition and for all of our current (and future) students who want to be credentialed through ICF.

Coming soon from Coaching Cognition is our website!  It is almost ready, and all I can tell you at this time is that it is fantastic!  The website will be officially unveiled at the Coaching Cognition Live Event in June 2010!  More details on the live event coming VERY soon, so stay tuned to find out how to sign up for this incredible event.

We are so happy to see Coaching Cognition growing and developing every day, and even more happy to see our students and coaches growing and developing, both in business and in life.  It is an incredible journey that can only move forward, forward, forward from here, and we are ecstatic to have you all with us along the way!

What People Are Saying...

I am so glad I made it to the Live Event! I had just been recovering from back surgery and didn't know if I could handle both the travel and sitting time, but I made up my mind I would still continue with my plans, and am thankful I did. It exceeded all my expectations! I loved getting to meet all my Renegade friends in person, as well as getting to meet other new friends who are aspiring entrepreneurs. I know we are on the cutting edge of something so BIG! The Live Event was over the top, and the people who make up the Renegade Community are amazing! Looking forward to attending the next one!
