Mike Klingler

Mike Klingler here.

As most of you already know, I’ve been studying social media marketing for over 2 years with tremendous success.

And I’ve committed much of my time to teaching what I’ve learned.

Now, the next chapter!!!

Over the last several months I’ve found some new ways to leverage what I like to call “The Power 5″ social media locations to accomplish even more with less time.  It’s exciting stuff.

To show and tell, in the style of teaching I love to do, I’ll be doing what I teach at my business Fan Page at Facebook, which is one of these Power 5 locations (this is different from the personal Face book page where you probably follow me at now).

I’ll be showing you how to use the Facebook business pages to duplicate what I’ve learned with less time.

Follow what I’m doing at Facebook business pages so you can stay connected to this next phase of my teaching cirriculum.  What I do here will connect with my next version of training at Renegade Professional.

Click to become a fan and follow the process over next few months.

By the way, if you’d like to be able to talk with me, now you can.  Ask me your question at the Discussions Area once becoming a fan.

Partners in success,

Mike Klingler

  6. HI Mike! I shared this comment in your Fan Page Discussion but wanted to share it here too…

Funny, I teach about the “Big 4″ but the Fan Page is something that I have been contemplating with for months… Here’s my post:

“Hi Mike! This is sooo cool! THANK YOU for taking the initiative and leading the way to educate the community re the benefits of a Fan Page. I for one have contemplated the idea of a fan page for a few months now but here are the 2 biggest reasons I haven’t moved forward with creating one:

    1) I can’t get over the idea of me inviting people to “Become My Fan”… why can’t it just be “Let’s Learn From Each Other” or something? ;) I know it’s a rather shallow excuse but I guess my #2 reason is is really what has been stopping me and that is,

    2) I already have to consciously limit my time for my social media mktg efforts, especially now that I am in product and course creation mode. I am already having a bit of a challenge making time to build and foster my relationships on my personal FB profile that to add another page – a Fan Page- where I really have to be consistently “present” and maintain makes me a bit nervous that one of them might suffer from lesser TLC…

One of my mentors ( soon to launch a book am co-authoring with her) Social Media Expert Mari Smith, is a huge advocate of Fan Pages and that’s what prompted me to seriously consider it.

I know sooner or later, I have to do it since I have so much I would like to teach and share as far as how to use technology and Relationship or Relational Marketing to grow ones business!

I am all eyes – and ears – to what you’re doing! I continue to learn immensely from you and I absolutely trust your direction and pioneering spirit!

    In Gratitude,

    Emma ;)

Focus on Bringing You the Value from Our Live Event

Mike KlinglerHere’s a sports analogy that will really put things in perspective for you…

I (Eric Walker) appointed Mike Klingler as the field general to quarterback my business (even if he didn’t know it at the time) in June of 2008 when I became a Renegade Professional.

From my background in coaching youth sports and elementary teaching, I quickly realized Mike had a one-of-a-kind unique way of making everybody around him better.

And here’s where the sports analogy comes into play, Mike is like a great point guard in basketball, or the type of quarterback in football who will be the field general that leads your team to the BIG score.

How?

Because of his uncanny ability to successfully read the entire field to make an important call. He identifies it as having a keen insight.  Mike is the guy who will get you the ball at the right time in the right place so that you can do something with it.

In a game of inches, it’s this advantage that can make up for the extra foot needed for the big touchdown in your business.

With so many things happening all at once under the umbrella of, not only our nation’s economy, but the entire world economy, it can be hard to see the entire field.

With all this uncertainty, there has arisen a tremendous need to find a new way to earn income to support your family and lifestyle.

Security is no longer coming from getting a job from someone else; it has to come from YOU.

To do this, people are forced to learn how to create value so that they can give something in exchange for something in return. Because of the pre-conditioned “norms” that brought us to this crucial point in our economy, creating value from your own interests and strengths no longer is something that comes naturally.

Hence, we’re at the cusp of what is being called “The Entrepreneurial Movement.”

Being the field general that he is, Mike Klingler has seen this shift on the horizon for awhile.

He recorded a succinct, to the point, four minute video that explains this Entrepreneurial Movement, and how you can position yourself to score a touchdown at the other end of the field.

This is free, pure value-based content, and worth every penny! After watching, be sure to leave a comment with your thoughts and join the conversation.

Make your business a castle, not a temporary dwelling,

Eric Walker

P.S. Now it’s your turn, and your time to build a value-based, heart and passion centered business using the Internet. Focus on these things with Mike Klingler and Renegade Professional as your guide.

You can also get started with Renegade University to learn a synergistic approach that combines the advantages of blogging with the leverage points of traditional Internet marketing, and the opportunities inherit within social media. It’s a great formula you can take advantage of now.

  5. I’m in complete agreement. I was once employed with a company that promised longevity, and after ten years of service, there was a downsizing of the company that resulted in massive layoff. From then on I embarked on a home based business and had success in doing so. Renegade Professional provides you with the tools and training to accomplish that in today’s business environment.

  6. As a football mom of three boys who played 8 years of Fball. the analogy works. Two sons played safety on the corner, uncanny in catching the ball carrier, linebacker, both doing kicking converts and FG keeping the game in their favour. A third son who played center of the O line and D line creating pockets for his QB and also reveling in chasing or sacking the opposing Qback

The QB is central, he depends on the team reading him and with him `reading“ the field as well.

Mike is persistent, consistent, integral and my QB to pay attention to. He reads and writes the playbook well. He aligns himself with the right `coaches, assistant coaches.

    This is a winning team.

  7. @Pat,

Brilliant. I love your comment. You’re good.

    Comment by ericwalker — January 28, 2010 @ 12:05 pm

  8. Hey, I loved the analogy. Made total sense to me.

Like I said to Charles Graham in FB, we cringed to watch Brett Farve or someone from the O Line Coaching, call a pass which got picked, instead of a sure Field Goal which would have taken the Vikings to the SuperBowl.

It would have been cool to watch Manning and Farve play the SuperBowl.

All that to say, Mike Klingler took his risks, had some falls, but his keen insight is at the top of his game.

This is the team to be on.

  9. And not only that @Eric, our family has four of the Provincial Football Championship rings, a couple of years, two boys earned the same ring. :-)

that is of course, the equivalent of State Championships.

Miss those highschool games and the 13th man in the stands. :-)

Did you know that the extent of VALUE you offer in your communication to prospects and clients is proportionate to how much you make?

Same is true in your JOB… However you make your money, your communication skills SIGNIFICANTLY impact what you earn.  Improving your communication is the fastest way to better opportunities and increased pay.

Uh Oh…
Probably not what you wanted to hear.

I AM sorry if this bursts your bubble…

But you might be looking for answers about how to make more moolah’ (or obtain more success in your work or business) in all the wrong places.

And perhaps you’re thinking that a system or opportunity is the solution when what you’re actually lacking is good communication.

This isn’t a problem that’s going to go away until you step up and meet the challenge head on.

——————————————
Who Is Teaching These Skills?
——————————————

Regardless of how you generate leads…

Whether you build a marketing funnel to generate your own leads, work a referrals list, use Google Adwords (PPC), a blog, a website, SEO, social media or you cold call leads (hope not)–there comes a point where you must know how to effectively communicate or you limit yourself and depending on how little you know about effective communication, it could stop any level of real success from happening at all.

If you’re good at marketing but bad at communicating, you likely make 10% of what you could with the same number of leads.

Ouch.

Coaching skills are effective communication–they give you the ability to lead and influence people.

Confidently.

Competently.

Learning coaching skills doesn’t have to be difficult… it just has to be one of your main focuses.

Doing so is one of the few shortcuts available to success.

We’ll soon be allowing students to learn these skills with Barbara Silva’s Coaching Cognition.

I encourage you to take this opportunity to learn in months what took me years because I was on my own alone. With Barbara and Coaching Cognition you’ll be in a safe place to accelerate your learning.

There’s another aspect to this that can really make a difference for you…

Students of Coaching Cognition will have an opportunity to be featured ongoing at our Coaching platform–where we direct PAYING clients to you and manage all the details (we have a lot of people in need of qualified coaches and regardless of what you think now, YOU likely have the ability to be one).

For many this will be a full-time income as a coach.

Others will do it here and there to make ends meet, build confidence, while enjoying assisting others, and building their dream in their current business.

An entirely new world opens up to you when you become a coach with Coaching Cognition.

In case you missed it, hear from Curt Johnson about Coaching Cognition.  He’s Ann Sieg’s upline and was her coach at one time.

Curt’s been a coach for years so his recommendation and participation in Coaching Cognition speaks volumes to what it can mean for you.

Here are two others I’d like you to hear from in case you missed them.

Here are more people you can hear from about their ‘take’ on Coaching Cognition… notice how authentic they are.

Notice how ’salesy’ they are NOT.

Really watch them.

Read between the lines–these are real people who have quickly gone from where most people start… where you likely are now…  to owning VALUABLE coaching skills.

You CAN do this.

We’ll have more details for you about how to join this exclusive 6 month class program.  Watch closely.  We’ll be open for only a short time in early October.  The date isn’t set.  I’ll share what I know as I know it!

If you missed my article on The Only Shortcut That Exists I highly recommend it.  It talks about developing your essential list of skills to avoid the mistake I made in my first 14 years in business.

Partners in success,
Mike Klingler

  1. How Much You Make is Also Tied to This… (Relaxed Intensity)

It’s not necessarily about how hard you work, you have to work hard tho.

But I realized early early on that when I was working so hard and thinking I SHOULD be making money just because of hard work alone – I was actually hindering my progress.

    Here’s why.

I wasn’t focused on offering value and communicating that value to a targeted group of prospects and market segments.

I had to learn how to communicate that value better – rather than write tired articles or awkward videos that looked like every other person.

Yet, for the majority, there really is no other way to learn how to create value other than continuous attempts at creating content that is valuable.

But beware, that doesn’t create influence, yet Be Aware! that leads to something BIG – a “grand opus” if you will where everything you do and everything you offer leads to that grand opus. It’s like climbing the mountain and reaching the top.

That’s how influence can be attained.

Just to repeat, I HAD (and so do you) to write those articles and make those videos to get to a place where I felt comfortable with understanding the process of creating value and wielding influence.

**I also had to find coaching … Most do, and if you don’t the odds of success are greatly diminished.

**And I had to talk to my fiance on the pillow night after night … that is both coaching and communication.

**I had to take thorough advantage of my interactions with Mike back when they were few and far between. I knew that whenever we got on the phone I had to both listen and communicate my needs in such a way and in a short amount of time. I had to be ready to do that and the only way to be ready to do that is to always be taking the pulse of your growth and communication skills.

And then I had to continue writing those tired articles and make more awkward videos.

And all the while, I had to continue to be absolutely vigilant about following through and finishing strong.

Sound intense? It is … BUT it’s also relaxed, Jeffrey Combs “Relaxed Intensity.”

Doing all of these things will put you in a developmental process continuum and you’ll have to stop every so often and reflect…what’s next?

During these mini-periods of reflection between bursts of productivity
and focus on training, I ALWAYS sought after a coach, and I was always seeking to communicate.

    I think you have to.

I ALWAYS sought to bring my fiance on board with what I was doing.

One of the worst things you can do is to live in a vaccum. Doing so
    stunts your ability to communicate.

If you aren’t talking to people, you aren’t doing one of the most important things that creates success – that’s communicating.

“Producing results comes from being focused with a relaxed intensity, developing skills & habits that reward you.” -Jeffery Combs

  2. Mike and Eric have really hit the nail on the head.

Communication is a necessity for success. It is something that I don’t do easily and I have noticed a difference when I have worked at ‘breaking my silence’ and working to communicate better.

I can see that communication is the key. People want to relate to ‘real people’, not just be a number or a cog in a wheel.

Communication itself is contributing value but to develop the skills will be highly beneficial to everyone, and most of all yourself.

As Mike has said, Coaching Cognition with Barbara Silva will give you a safe place to learn how to communicate more effectively so you can continue to add value and attract people to you.

    Comment by Deborah Marsden — October 6, 2009 @ 4:37 pm

  3. There are many places I can turn to access coaching for personal development.

Recently, I attended a conference that provided a hugely discounted value with a renowned coaching agency.

I have decided, that Coaching Cognition is where I will seek my personal development.

I have a deep confidence in Barbara Silva, her values and track record for succeeding in making meaningful changes in her students’ lives. I look forward to learning to be a better listener and working through “blocks” of personal baggage.

It feels good to be able to say “no” to many other similar services that may provide great training, but do not fit for me at this time.

  4. Better Communication = Better Pay
I have to be reminded sometimes to get my head off marketing and back on communicating. But,I know how to do it well. After all, I’m with Coaching Cognition!

Watching Curt, Eric and Claire remind us of our ability to impact and influence others in a positive way with coaching and communication skills.

And what a pleasure it is to learn how to effectively communicate and influence others. I’m staying focused….thanks for the opportunity!

    Comment by Becky Joubert — October 27, 2009 @ 10:27 am

  5. Becky, I agree with your equation …

    Better Communication = Better Pay.

As Eric points out, it is so important to be able to both give value and communicate that value well.

Coaching Cognition is definitely an ideal environment … to learn and practice better communication skills.

Have you ever questioned yourself–or doubted yourself–about certain business decisions you’ve made along the way?

I know I have.

This is how we figure stuff out.

It’s how we discover who we ‘really’ are in business–

It’s How You Discover Your Brand.

Your brand is what you’re selling (it’s you).

It’s the most valuable piece.

Once you have it business gets easy.  And fun.

And profitable.

But doubt–in and of itself–isn’t enough to discover YOU in business.

It’s just a part of it.

In fact, doubt is destructive without TRUST.

And yet, “doubting” will serve you as long as you’ve included trust in the mix.

So…

Doubt + Trust = Personal Discovery and Greater Levels of Ultimate Success

This is when your power gets turned on.

Here I’m precisely describing how you end up:

- Loving what you do
- While the good money flows inward
- And the value you offer flows out

It’s the ULTIMATE success story.

It’s the only success story.
I’d like you to consider something:

Can any of this be accomplished by just following a formula?

Is there such thing as a marketing formula, or a proven system?

Here’s my take:

Yes, there’s a time and place for formulas and systems, but they are way overrated.

Because they don’t have a soul.

Without soul you got nothin’.

Are you focused on formulas and a system, or are you focused on acquiring EACH of the soulful skills needed to succeed (click if you missed the ‘essential list’)?

Back to how I discovered my brand (to assist you in your journey of finding YOURS)…

“Doubt + Trust = Personal Discovery and Greater Levels of Ultimate Success”

–A Recent Bout With Doubt–

I did a leap recently in my own journey while thinking about how to introduce Coaching Cognition.

My gut told me to avoid the time trap of doing a ‘big launch.’

That would be a huge distraction for our team.

And frankly, it’s not a passion of mine to create a thorough launch sequence (though that has its place).

My passion, at least for now, is building out the infrastructure for our growing community of entrepreneurs–landmark projects like Coaching Cognition.

As I thought about ‘launch’, I leaned toward keeping it simple–so simple it wouldn’t even be noticed as a launch at all.  It would be more like an introduction.  I’d allow the ‘marketing’ to unfold on its own spontaneously.

Of course we’d educate on why “coaching skills” are vital to one’s success.

For example, Barbara Silva, our coach of coaches, led two webinars this summer discussing the power of coaching skills; what it is and what its not; and how many new students will find their own way into business success for the first time as a paid coach with us.

In my last email I talked about the ‘essential list’ everyone in business should be tackling head on — that its the only shortcut that really exists.  That email highlights the value of coaching.

But emails like that weren’t planned. They were spontaneous.

The email I’m writing now wasn’t planned.

And yet, in a sense, this is all part of the launch, or at least the introduction, of Coaching Cognition.

It kind of just goes like this…

Because Coaching Cognition is our main focus right now… its naturally what occupies my mind… so it’s naturally mentioned and referenced when I share teaching points (like in the last email) and connect with you in emails like today.

–Trusting Your Way–

I trusted that if we share some main points, the right people who are ready would join us without the need for fanfare, and once again a large group would make a transformational advancement in their businesses together.

But until very recently, I also had doubt in myself on this very thing I trusted…

“Maybe we do need a full blown launch plan for Coaching Cognition?”

–Doubting–

We’ve done very well with our business.  And yet, we’ve never really focused a lot on the marketing.

Could we do even better if we did?

Are there people we haven’t reached, who we could have helped, if we marketed more heavily?

I’ve often reflected about my ‘way’ of marketing, thinking it was my weakest point.

Most marketers teach to use ‘launch formulas’ or a full blown ‘launch sequence’ to REALLY get people’s attention.

These are calculated.

A launch formula or sequence is a highly orchestrated sequence of well crafted emails, and/or reports and/or other planned steps to prepare your audience to buy something from you.

When implemented correctly they’re extremely effective (at generating up front sales).
But I didn’t want to do that.

It’s odd for most online marketers when they hear things like this from me but, “I don’t think about selling all that much.”

Instead, I focus on CONNECTING with people who really need what we offer but just don’t know it yet, and then on effectively COMMUNICATING what we offer so they totally ‘get’ it.

Before they even buy they’re already light years ahead of where they were.  I shift their context by ‘keeping it real’.  Rarely do I feel an urge for fanfare.

Some may say I’m still selling–and yes, that’s happening.

But the difference is this:

I didn’t produce these sales by focusing on a formula.  A system has never really been THE SOLUTION, no matter how hard I’ve tried to make that fly over the years.

Instead, as I discussed recently in the only real short cut that exists, I’ve focused on developing the skills needed (the essential list most avoid) that I believe everyone must hit head on if they want to end the struggle and move onto their own brand of ultimate success.

Once and for all.

But this is all stuff I figured out recently.

Actually, I knew some of it all along and I trusted it.  But I also doubted myself throughout the process over the years… even up til now until a new level of clarity has hit.

It’s now reached me at a higher level of clarity than ever… and thus my brand solidifies, business becomes even easier yet, and the sensation of Ultimate Success is heightened once more.

The doubt along the way was healthy because it caused me to reflect.

But it served me ONLY because I trusted myself at the same time… and found my own way to steer another direction (away form formulas, systems and promises) and toward “the essential list” and authenticity.

I notice that every successful person I’ve met, regardless of what they ‘think’ have done the same thing.  They’d be successful regardless of the system or formula they use, because they’ll always choose the right one for THEM.  And they’ll do more than that.  They’ve developed themselves through the essential list… either directly and quickly or by default through painstaking trial and error.  It has to happen one way or another.

“If Only I Knew Then What I Know Now…”

I’ve been through the “ringer” in business–and maybe that’s why I continue to work  hard to get the  message across that Learning Coaching Skills IS the Fastest Shortcut to Success.

If you missed my recent article, “Finding The Only Shortcut in Business and Taking It” I encourage you to read it now.

I’d also like to introduce you to meet someone today who has grown significantly in developing her essential list with Barbara Silva’s Coaching Cognition.

Meet Claire Covington as she shares what Barbara Silva and Coaching Cognition has done for her.

Listen carefully to what Claire shares because you’ll notice something.

She’s authentic.

And that’s the key!

Please listen carefully to Curt Johnson as well, knowing he’s been a successful coach and businessman for years.  Curt was Ann Sieg’s coach not so long ago before she discovered her own voice and brand.  He’s also her upline!

Watch Curt Johnson on Coaching Cognition.

We’ll begin registration for Coaching Cognition in early October.

I’ll be sharing more details with you as I get them.

  1. Mike,

Doubt is an interesting word and it’s important that you have used your doubt to reflect. Doubt might often be confused with ‘fear’ and they are far different.

As you said, you used your doubt as a trigger to reflect further and what you discovered was a deeper trust in yourself. This is so important as many of us don’t trust ourselves enough.

Your authenticity comes through and its because of this that so many people have come to know, trust and believe in you.

Like attracts like. So when you give us examples of people like Claire and Curt…how could they be anything but authentic?

Coaching Cognition will be an excellent platform for those people who have ‘kept their light under a barrel’. They will shine ever so brightly and help so many others along the way.

  2. Hi Mike,

I love what you said about ‘being authentic’ and ‘loving what you do’. There is definitely a struggle in process of finding your authentic self as well as your own unique brand in business.

However like you have put is so nicely the ultimate success is being able to be your authentic self, love what you do, give value to others as well as receiving value from others.

The coaching cognition program will be a place to experience all of those things and more. I have had the privilege of being coached by one of the coaching cognition coaches Eric Walker. It was a great experience.

I know if people are willing and ready to take their business to the next step working with a coach will help them become empowered personally and in their business building efforts.

I am also interested in becoming a coach with Coaching Cognition and am very excited about the program. Hearing the testimonials from others and their experience of taking the course is extremely encouraging.

Thanks to you and Barbara Silva for providing this wonderful opportunity.

    kind regards,

    Ness,

  3. Hi Mike,

I really loved this article and related to it on a number of levels. At the moment it seems people are fairly jaded by big launches but I doubt that people will ever get jaded by excellent service and the feeling that they are genuinely cared for.

Perhaps your way is not the way to get quick results but I’m sure they’ll be long lasting.

I built my acupuncture clinic one relationship at a time. I never advertised, never did any sort of marketing, and never even did any follow up… I just CONNECTED with each person as they came in and soon enough I had a busy clinic.

I’m certain if my focus was to implement a formula for building a clinic rather than the relationships being first and foremost my clinic would not have grown the way that it did.

Interestingly, I recently went through a period that was emotionally taxing and that meant that I was not connecting with my patients as I normally would and I noticed the difference in my business. As I started to feel better I immediately started to CONNECT with people and referrals started flooding back in… immediately.

I feel that the kind of business that comes from referrals due to happy clients brings with it good karma that can not be achieved through marketing, from my experience these are the best people to work with.

I love marketing and appreciate it’s power and importance in business but I also believe unless a business is built on the bedrock of CARING for the people that actually make being business possible (customers and clients) than marketing isn’t worth much at all.

Your insights and genuineness are always a breath of fresh air.

  4. I’m deeply touched by what you have written in this post Mike. So much so that I am very close to tears.

I read your ‘Finding the only shortcut…’ post and the Essential List, which I now have printed out and reflect upon daily. In that post your story conveyed so powerfully how The List emerged out of your own struggles and experiences.

When I read your latest email a few moments ago I could hardly believe that you were writing about a process that I have been going through for a while now. I have been in that space of ‘self-doubt’, searching for my ‘voice’, the Brand of Me. It’s a lonely space to be in and having someone else suddenly reach out and say “I’ve been there too” – well, it nearly done me in! The tears whelmed up because I knew you ‘understood’ what it was like to be in that space.

My self-doubt emerged as I was creating my website. Finally, against the advice ‘don’t keep tinkering…move on’ I took down all the pages I’d written & took two-thirds off my homepage. I knew it was the right thing to do. And then, once I’d cleared the decks, my ‘look and feel’ began to emerge and then ‘my voice’. As you say ‘doubt and trust’. I had to trust that I would recognize ‘my voice’ when I finally heard it – that I would know my ‘look and feel’ when I finally saw it.

Being a member of Renegade Breakthrough and Renegade Pro has been such an amazing, joyful experience for me. It is an experience in which I am constantly touched by the honesty and ‘giving’ that is conveyed by everyone involved with Renegade. I recently read DiDi’s post on Better Networker where she shares her experiences after reading The List. Her beauty, both inside and out, shines forth and warms us all.

My deepest thanks to you all for being who you are and sharing that with us all.

  5. It’s a shame that internet marketing beginners fall for systems that seduce by promising “easy, fast and simple”. I was no different.

But a system can only take you so far. There is a point when you need to actually talk to your prospect.

A lot of people are afraid to do this and they hide behind the system. What they don’t really understand is that fear can be overcome just by learning the skill one needs to talk with confidence and posture.

That’s why I’m really looking forward to the Coaching Cognition course, so I can learn the skills I need to be more effective in my interactions with people and especially those that seek help from me.

I really appreciate your honesty and “realness” Mike as this helps me to realize that “yes” I can also do it. Mike did and still does!

  6. Doubt vs. Trust – This is actually a topic I want to develop in our coaching training.

Often, we place negative or positive values on something and leave it at that. At first glance, doubt would be a negative and trust the positive.

But as you pointed out here, doubt can serve it’s purpose. It made you stop, reflect, and get clear on what you were doing before plunging in.

As coaches, we help our clients to examine both the positives and the negatives. If we are experiencing an emotion, like doubt, it’s good to find out exactly why it is there. Doubt, in this case, didn’t mean you were on the wrong track. But it caused you to focus on what it was you really wanted to do and why you wanted to do it. That’s powerful.

I shudder to think of the loss to us all if you had not taken the time to understand this. Some people experience doubt and use it as a reason to quit. Thank goodness, you didn’t.

Trust is a good thing…so long as it has been authentically earned. We’ve all trusted someone or something and found the trust had been misplaced.

You build trust – for me that is your brand – precisely because of what you have done in this article. You don’t just go out and “sell.” You share your process, your thinking and your goals.

Coaching Cognition has grown out of the trust that developed between you and I. You inspire me every day!

  7. Mike,

Gosh, I’ve a true awakening this week, though I don’t know why it has taken me 6 months to “get it”. As a result of your previous post, I’ve been revamping my blog to reflect a place where marketers can get good information, rather than focusing on telling them all about my products and business opportunity. This post was right-on with the timing for me. Thank you so much for your insight, wisdom and honesty!

  8. Thank you Mike!

You clearly speak from within – who you really are. That means more to me than any marketing strategy or tactic out there. I have a tendency to question myself (doubt), and also the intent of others.

Every time I read your emails or hear you speak on videos and tutorials I know that it is you I’m listening to – the real you – the person who clearly likes helping others. For me, that creates trust. So I can feel, now more than ever, the importance of coaching – coaching with heart. Even from the printed word it creates a connection that is truly exciting.

And it is also clear that you attract people who are of the same heart like Barbara Silva and the Marketing Merge Team. Being a member of Renegade Professionals has brought me to a place of knowing I can build a business that fits me.

I’m sure I would seriously benefit from the Coaching Cognition program. Even though I’m still progressing through the action guide, is this program something to consider now?

  9. Mike,
Having read your article I feel that it is your authenticity, thought, and speculation that has made both you and Ann a success. The so called “formulas” are just that: formulas, with no heart or soul. Personally I shut down when I receive them, and rarely read them through. I may not be a “successful” business woman as yet, but it has been through my soul searching that your system resonates with me. I have received numerous emails and marketing program sales pitches but there has to be the authenticity and personal emotion behind the words. Don’t lose the feelings you have, they are there for a reason. Success comes in its time to those who remain true to themselves.

  11. Mike,
It’s so “you” the way you describe the conflicting formula of doubt and trust.
I really never thought about how they work together to help us make our best decisions. Again, it’s this type of insight that helps us move forward and trust our own instincts and find what works for us, not someone else.

I’ll just add, as one of Coaching Cognition’s new coaches, it’s that little bit of helpful doubt that makes me strive to be a better coach and not just rely on what I already know, even though I totally trust my decision and the path I’ve chosen.

  12. Doubt + Trust = Personal Discovery and Greater Levels of Ultimate Success

Well, Mike, you’ve hit the nail on the head again. You are definitely in your power as a mentor and business coach/trainer.

You well know the ebbs and flow of self doubt I have journeyed through. I am finding a centre of strength and absolutely looking forward to working with Barbara and Coaching Cognition to build that out.

Long ago, I learned to trust you. When the systems failed, you didn’t. The kind of authenticity you demonstrate here is a common thread through the years. I think you are spot on listening to your gut in regards to the marketing process that will work best for you.

    Comment by Pat Campbell — September 30, 2009 @ 7:35 pm

  13. Julie – developing coaching skills will help with your marketing and customer relationships even if you are not yet ready to actually become a coach at this point.

For me, I knew coaching was what I wanted to do because of my lifelong love of helping people in this particular way. Follow both your heart and your “gut.” They will tell you what is the best timing for you!

    Comment by Barbara Silva — October 1, 2009 @ 2:11 pm

  14. Barbara,

Thanks, that answers my question. Helping and interacting with people is an important and exciting part of the business I want to create. I know listening is important, but I also know it’s much more than that and I don’t have much experience from a business standpoint.

You are right. For the last two years I have been learning to listen more closely to my heart and gut – that inner knowing – and it has served me well. Things just seem to fall into place and I am now learning skills I never thought I would be learning. When I saw your webinars on coaching I couldn’t stop thinking about it. It feels both exciting and a little scary. It is obvious to me that it is of great value.

    Thank you

  15. Several Responses in Reading this…

    “- Loving what you do”
    - While the good money flows inward
    - And the value you offer flows out”

Yes, and I think I would add: “loving what you do and why
you do it.” And you’ve reflected here and elsewhere you
desire to help others as a major motivating factor.

In other words, a true heart-felt “why” can motivate us in
so many areas. Like, for example, from your “why” for
sharing the emails and moving forward with Coaching
    Cognition.

“I’d allow the ‘marketing’ to unfold on its own
    spontaneously.”

I took that as flowing from your “why” and, frankly, loved
    reading it.

“Instead, I focus on CONNECTING with people who really need
what we offer but just don’t know it yet, and then on
effectively COMMUNICATING what we offer so they totally
    ‘get’ it.”

Yes, in fact I appreciated listening to Dean Caporella
yesterday relative to having the perspective of the other
person in mind while writing articles. Again, viewing things
from the needs, wants and desires of the other person –
along with my heart’s desire to truly meet those needs –
and then communicating my heart whether in a written format
like an article or a series of emails. Neat blend!

    On another point…

You mentioned Claire’s “authenticity” in her talk. Yes,
actually I took that in last evening and thought the same
thing. Simple, straight forward communication from one
person to another sharing how Barbara has helped her.

Now there’s a “talking point” for anyone:

    1. Simple.
    2. Straight forward.
    3. Sincere.

(I feel an article coming on, lol!)

In fact, I went from listening there to Claire to one of her
    training videos in Renegade Pro.

And, of course, Barbara has already been a real
encouragement and help to me as I travel along this
“attraction marketing path.” A definite “Go-Giver.”

Thanks for sharing these, Mike. I’ve already made a file
for this one and “the essential list” one in recent days. I
    plan to review them again.

I hope you all are able to assist many in reaching their dreams,

    Lee

My baby daughter was there.

I was there.

If only I knew then, what I know now.

But who hasn’t said that before?

I remember my mentality back then…

“I ‘gotta’ make this work.”

And judging by my circumstances I was right.

It was an all-too familiar and uncomfortable condition for me in business back then.

I hadn’t yet learned about the only REAL shortcut that exists.

I Chased Rainbows.

Little did I know that the pot of gold was in my own backyard.

What a stubborn one I can be.

That stubbornness has served me in one way at least (never, ever quite–right?)

But it has also cost me dearly, with a mentality that seemed to say–

“No, not me… I don’t have to work on my listening and communication skills, or learn how to lead. I’ll find a much easier way to succeed than THAT.”

If only I knew how hard that would be, trying to find the EASY way.

Because…

Looking for the “Easy Way” is the Hardest Way of All.

And, you could say…

What Most People Think to be the “Hard Way” is Actually the “Easiest”.

I read personal development books.

I went to leadership trainings.

But I never made it my #1 thing–not back then. I just thought I did at the time.

There I was at 30 years old with my six-month old daughter in my lap.

Chasing the dream from home.

Barely making enough to make ends meet.

I’d made more (much more) from home before that. But then it had shriveled.

I’d worked hard before… real hard.

And then after burning out–after working like a mad-man from age 22 to 27 (chasing all the bogus shortcuts most people still chase), I “checked out” for about two years as soon as the income was high enough.

–Burn Out–

I played catch-up on life.

The color returned to my face.

I smiled more without trying to.

I started a family.

I caught up on what I had been missing while ‘building the dream.’

But then, after watching my income slide back down I found myself in familiar territory…

“I gotta make this thing work!”

So I was working feverishly again… and had been for about a year since returning from world travels, reflection, and a bout with getting healthy and fit (I had needed to do that after the 5 year focused business effort).

I was really stressed out–working, working…

Trying…

Sitting with my six month old daughter beside me, trying to find the ’shortcut’ again. Trying to live up to my ‘big words’ to family and friends, most of whom had forgotten I was a winner.

Trying to justify my commitment to succeed.

The Million Dollar Chapter Comes…

But within a year from that challenging time, I had figured a piece of it out (the marketing part) and I started attracting business in a BIG way… though I still hadn’t learned how to keep it. I had to go through a very labor intensive learning process because I was still looking for shortcuts in all the wrong places.

By age 31, I had attracted over a million dollars to my new company within the first month of launch and had people joining my networking business before I even had time to make the first follow-up phone call. That was 6 years ago.

It was nice, though there was still plenty of stumbling (as I was still learning what I’ll share with you today).

It was actually quite rough… but it WAS a great experience because it forced me to finally–eventually– realize and take the only REAL shortcut that exists… the very thing I was avoiding the entire time because I thought it would be harder, when it was actually much, much easier.

If only I was getting emails like this.

Fast forward 6 years, I now head up a growing multi-million dollar enterprise. Solid, stable, growing incredibly fast. Enjoyable. In alignment with my values and intentions.

From struggle to now business bliss, I have learned and lived the only REAL short-cut there is, and how to get people to not just stand in line to join my business… and not just stay… but to duplicate in ways that extend far beyond what I imagined possible.

Finding the REAL Short-Cut… And Taking It.

I have always looked for the shortcuts, which would have been great, if only I was looking in the right place.

In my earlier years in business, I was constantly trying to use some new system to generate leads for me. Or to ‘qualify’ them for me. I even worked hard to create such systems.

Its not that there wasn’t value in what I was doing, and in qualifying prospects and using systems to help–that IS a small part of the equation. But this aspect of it is SECONDARY to what is most critical for one’s success.

Here’s the “Essential List” most avoid making their #1 priority in business:

Focus on Developing…

* A Keen insight
* An ability to influence others
* An ability to choose the right opportunities for you
* An ability to create and communicate value
* An ability to attract people to you through networking and marketing
* An ability to inspire others by truly connecting with them, by listening
* An ability to cultivate partnerships

You CAN develop these things rather quickly, but only if you make that your main aim.

The list is so alien when you’re not ready.

Its like hocus pocus.

It might even be scary.

It makes success seem really far away. But that’s only if you’re not ready to take responsibility for it.

The truth is that when you look at this essential list square in the face, that’s when success gets close.

That’s when you’re getting warmer.

Then, if you don’t take your eyes off this list… that’s when you get hot.

Attractive Marketer Hot.

Doing so puts your butt on the shortcut… The only REAL shortcut you’ll ever find.

I Wasn’t Ready…

I wasn’t ready to look until I had worked so hard for so long trying to bypass ‘the list’ of essentials, that I finally just stumbled into it here and there, over time… over a long period of painstaking time because I didn’t know it was IT.

I thought it was just “part” of it.

Somehow I had exhausted everything else and I just decided to focus only on that list for a while… that was about 3 years ago.

I buckled down on ONLY it.

I connected with the right coaching, training and people and developed my skills (the essential list) as QUICKLY AS I POSSIBLE COULD.

I did it because I had to. I was exhausted. It was that or admit failure. And that’s not me.

This is where my stubbornness helped.

And maybe its why I relate so well with the majority out there who struggle… because I was on that path with such intense determination for so long, avoiding the essential list just like most do.

My Point In All This?

My message to you is that it doesn’t have to take you as long to find IT as it took me.

It took me a long time because I was stubborn in believing the B.S. because I wanted to believe it, just like many people reading this want to believe that a system is the answer.. and not you. You don’t want to follow through on this advice because you’re like I was… you’re where I was.

But some of you will move on it. And that’s who I’m talking to here.

Don’t get me wrong…

The vehicles you use (the opportunities, systems, etc) ARE important obviously… but they are motionless without the list of essentials above.

Like pushing a car uphill versus stepping on the gas and zipping down it. That’s what I’m taking about.

I’m talking about finally being able to navigate yourself from where you are to where you want to be with absolute control, safety, comfort and EASE. Every time with ANY system.

And…

I’m talking about accomplishing everything you want FASTER by making it your #1 intention to focus on the essential list.

Are you ready for that?

You are already addressing some of this if you’re moving through the Start Here Checklist in your Renegade Professional back office.

But are you consciously addressing the entire list head on?

Is it your #1 aim?

There are 5 things we’ll be introducing to you over the course of this fall and winter. You’ve likely heard about some of them already. Mysuggestion is to study what they offer you.

They are:

1. Coaching Cognition
2. The Live Event in January
3. Super Guides Training & Collaboration Program
4. PBN (Becoming a Trainer for the Professionals, Businesses and Non-profits section of Renegade Professional)
5. Renegade Professional News — Pay close attention to the students who grow in this community. Connect with them. Know them.

Infuse yourself into the leadership here.

First, see how others are developing their brand & gaining exposure by closely aligning with this open community… then follow in their footsteps.

We’re creating an ever-expanding economy here that you can take part in.

Pay close attention to these 5 development opportunities over the coming weeks and months–each is designed to help you attack the “essential list” and take the only REAL shortcut there is.

Take a moment right now to learn a little more about each of those 5 collaborative opportunities by clicking on the links above.

Success doesn’t have to be hard.

But it will be if you don’t take a very proactive stance to attack your essential list head on.

Here it is again:

You Must Have…

* A Keen Insight.
* An ability to influence others
* An ability to choose the right opportunities for you
* An ability to create and communicate value
* An ability to attract people to you through networking and marketing
* An ability to cultivate partnerships

You have to initiate all this.

It’s all on you and it always will be.

But the people and assistance is here if you’re ready for it.

Partners in success,
Mike Klingler

  2. Great article Mike,

What I Love About You Mike is How You Have Helped our Family

I’ve been more of the supportive one – supporting Eric Walker, my fiance, and helping him build his business (credibility and influence).

I have been the one quietly looking over his shoulder. I have been the one whispering in his ear, and I have been the one with a listening ear during those “truth moments” when he’s feeling worn out or between a rock and a hard place – those “crossroads” moments as we call them.

And through it all, you’ve been there with us.

And THIS has made it a short cut for us.

Eric is a natural teacher (like you), but he doesn’t have 14 years of business experience that has created gobs of wisdom. But what he does have is — what he’s always been smart about — is studying what you do, listening closely to what you say and model…etc.

So, when you highlight this essential list…

    A Keen Insight.
    An ability to influence others
An ability to choose the right opportunities for you
An ability to create and communicate value
An ability to attract people to you through networking and marketing
    An ability to cultivate partnerships

…I feel like you’re bringing EVERYTHING home that Eric has been working toward for the previous 14 months (14 months as opposed to 14 years – Now that IS a short cut!).

And the beautiful thing about this is that because I’ve always looked over his shoulder, I’ve been attracted to your teachings as well, and I’ve picked up on things that maybe Eric hasn’t or have seen things from a different perspective.

Not only do I get to tuck that under my belt, but I can also teach Eric what I see. And there have been a good number of times when my insight has helped Eric tremendously also.

Do you see how this has helped our family! I have to think that the family I see forming in the Renegade Professional community can be just as influential under the roof of all the families – husbands and wives and children! It makes so much sense, both in business and life.

I’ve enjoyed a lot of your articles, Mike, but this stands as my favorite – never have I heard your voice come ringing out so clearly.

Thank you for all that you do. I can’t wait to meet you next week!

  3. Mike thanks for sharing it is really an ah hah moment. I think when it finally does hit us all to put the essentials together like you have stated. If I knew half of what I’m learning from you guys 11 years ago, it would have certainly saved a ton. However I won’t look back, but will move forward with what I’m learning and apply it too.

    Cheers,

  4. Mike,

One person I have seen following you who truly embraces these principles is Barbara Silva. Not only do I consider her a great coach, mentor and friend, but she is a shining example of someone who has followed your wisdom, as laid out above, and applied it in a way that makes sense for her. The result is a new service which I believe has the potential to revolutionize the coaching industry.

I started following Mike around the same time Barbara did, I believe, and he affected me in a similar way. At some point, his wisdom really started to sink in. I stopped chasing the rainbows and started to wonder…could I MAKE MY OWN RAINBOWS? It seemed crazy at the time, but I started to believe in myself more and more, through the feedback and encouragement from members of this great community of people I was learning with. I started to really “GET” where all this was headed, and started to see myself as taking an active role in the movement. Not just going along for the ride, but taking a turn at the wheel. I started to realize I could do more than make money in this industry; I could make a DIFFERENCE.

Now I am working on my own business concept, which, like Barbara’s, builds on the concepts that visionaries like you and others have already laid out. I believe my concept will help to move the industry forward and help it gain more widespread acceptance.

My greatest wish of all, though? That someone finds my business, taps into all the resources like what Barbara, Mike, Ann and others have developed, and then develops their OWN improvements, to help others and improve this industry, this economy, and this world we live in.

Critics of people like you and Ann say that what you do isn’t duplicatable. I disagree, and say what you are starting to see is evidence to the contrary. True, you aren’t seeing cookie-cutter clones plugging in to the easy-to-follow systems that “guarantee” success. What you are seeing, though, are people focusing on those items on the list Mike just posted to create their own path to the end of their own rainbow, and all the success that comes with it, not just a pot of gold. What you are starting to see are people duplicating what really matters.

  5. Mike,

I was working at the kitchen table here in Portland, Oregon with Mike as Marketing Merge headquarters. I saw Mike fire up a double shot of expresso and make his specialty coffee drink and start typing what you’ve just read above.

We both did our thing, not really talking much. I was working on the Renegade Professional News. Later, I fell asleep on the couch, and woke up (in the wee hours of morning) to find that Mike hadn’t moved. He was still staring at his computer – wrapping this piece up and getting it out to YOU.

My point is that no one I have ever met works harder than Mike Klingler, and he does so because he genuinely cares about people. It shows in everything he does.

    ***

Whoa! This is some “Deep” Value you’re dishing out to us.

Here is the question: What is going to validate you as someone who can really help?

    Answer: Deep value.

    What is deep value?

The Fastest Way to Success is to be Validated for Your Value.

    But how…?

    So for everyone reading this-

Deep value is making this realization … if you’re not solving people’s problems or giving them what THEY want, you’re not in business. This is why you see people who’ve been at this internet attraction marketing thing for so long, and haven’t gotten any results.

    You have to figure out:

1). What you love i.e. what you want your business to be, and

    2) How you can make that your business – in this case, the term “business” is giving people what they want, and at the same time, being really passionate about giving that to people.

This is how you become an expert.

And to be successful in anything, you have to be nothing short of an expert.

I use and recommend Renegade Professional to help learn how to create value and build your system so people can find you and validate you for your expertise.

Without your own unique system (your own “system of giving value” that is), you won’t stand out from the crowd or make money with your business.

So…your number one priority is giving value to the people you know need it just like Mike has with this content.

    BOTTOM LINE:

Decide what value you’re willing to give – the promise you can make to yourself, and the others that are inspired to join your “conversation” – then set up the BASIC components to do this.

  6. The Essentials list is evidenced in Mike Klingler’s life. His story sums his journey to discovery of these truths and Mikes’ business, Marketing Merge and Renegade Professional is now testamony to the reality.

    - An ability to influence others
    – An ability to choose the right opportunities for you
    – An ability to create and communicate value
    – An ability to attract people to you through networking and marketing
    – An ability to cultivate partnerships

I have decided that Mike Klingler is the trainer/mentor that I am focusing on. I have learned over the years of working with him in some of those hard times that his integrity, giving work ethic is steadfast.

@Eric comments: “Deep value is making this realization … if you’re not solving people’s problems or giving them what THEY want, you’re not in business. This is why you see people who’ve been at this internet attraction marketing thing for so long, and haven’t gotten any results.

Mike has become an expert because he is doing what he loves and has found a way to solve problems in a niche market.

Being a part of Renegade Professional and Marketing Merge pushes me to discover much about myself.I certainly know that I am more of an ” expert” now than I ever was outside this training centre.

I look forward to becoming all that I can be. To giving to others all that I can and take joy in that.

Thanks Mike for being steadfast, Pat

  7. Chasing My Rainbow

You’ve done it again, Mike. Taken something so personal to you and shared it with everyone. I guess that’s why I feel like I’ve known you for a long time!

I can so relate to the stubborness you describe. So many times, I have chased a dream only to find out it wasn’t my dream. What makes perfect sense to me at this stage of my life is to grab hold of the opportunities that are right for ME!!

Being a mom, wife and nurturer by nature, I find I too often compromise myself and this ends up being no fun for me or my family. Not any longer. I am keeping my eye on this list you have so eloquently put out there for the community. It’s a great list that I read to begin my day and the last thing I read before retiring.

It takes confidence, perseverance and the ability to learn from prior mishaps to become a better person and marketer. I think I’m ready to take that next step and ready to have others follow!

Lead by example, Mike, and you have set a wonderful example for the rest of us.

  10. Mike,

Wow! This article truly said it all, “Chasing Rainbows”. I don’t know what it is but I think we are all wired up for the “short cut.” Only to find out much later in life there is no such thing as a “short cut.”

Everything is based on what you said:

    * A Keen Insight.
    * An ability to influence others
    * An ability to choose the right opportunities for you
    * An ability to create and communicate value
    * An ability to attract people to you through networking and marketing
    * An ability to cultivate partnerships

And once that’s found, the moment arises. And the story is told…

Thanks, Mike for sharing and opening your heart…

  11. Mike, You found what you love to do and the money is coming back to you…the pieces are coming into balance. I, too, believe, that it was keen insight, and choosing the right opportunity for that started me on the path to create and communicate value for that opportunity.

Now continuing to develop the 3 essentials: to influence others, attract people to them through networking and marketing and partnerships are the next ones to concentrate on in a stronger fashion.

Thanks for these reminders of your success, Mike.

  12. Mike, you have away with words that paints a picture of success. Many who go into the home business industry think if they have the right product or service that people need, they’ll make money.

The essential element to success that you listed, didn’t come naturally…. No matter what business we
are in there will always be a competitor, otherwise
the likely hood there isn’t a market. Even the other people in ones MLM are your competitors.

Thanks for reminding us of the essential that we must continue to develop and improve on.

You’ve build your reputation by exemplifying everything that you propose in this article. 14. Essentials Eliminate Overwhelm

    Mike,
As usual you put your heart and soul into everything you write and do and what’s even more special is that you do it more for others than yourself.

Your ‘Essentials’ list is so focused that it can and will help those of us who often spend much of the time in the land of ‘overwhelm’.

It is a laser beam which points to those things that are most important to the success of anyone’s business.

Thanks again for helping me to focus my laser beam on what is truly important and which will serve up success.

    Comment by Deborah Marsden — September 27, 2009 @ 5:21 pm

  15. Well put, Mike. And so many great comments from others too.

Lane talks about the right way to put the ideas into action and ‘live it’ (in his comments above). He is building out his own business concept, not just for personal gain, but with the desire to make a difference and help others. What a perfect example of someone that gets it, implements it; he’s “duplicating what really matters”.

    ***

When I look back on my own path, I realize that chasing shortcuts was such an expensive approach. I needed money, so I spent money on the latest, greatest, super-shortcut that promised quick, easy cash.

No quick, no easy, no cash … just less money. The worst part is that I was most susceptible to buying another shortcut when I really needed the money and could least afford to waste it!

But the most expensive thing about shortcuts is that you are buying a ‘rainbow to nowhere’. Not only is there no pot of gold at the end, but it takes you off course.

Time. That is a much bigger expensive from chasing rainbows and taking shortcuts than actual dollars spent. Nothing to show for the efforts, AND I’ve got to take the time to get back on the right track before I can even start to make progress. The opportunity cost is tremendous.

You’ve hit all the right buttons with this one, Mike. Continuous investment in myself, my skills, and my focus on connecting with and helping others – it’s the right way, and the quickest way, to success.

“Little did I know that the pot of gold was in my own backyard.”

Also, the article rings so true for so many of us. Some of us have harder heads than others. I’m convinced it’s the first step toward testing your entrepreneur mettle. After all, if your determination and commitment is there, you will bust through this, too.

And, of couse, Mike, your humaness shows through, as it always does. Your commitment to go-giving is something to strive for.

And yes, we have all been there at one point in our lives.
Rainbows are still attractive but life experience and knowing who we are inside reveals the emptiness of chasing after them.

That’s why when opportunities come along that will help me grow as a person, I take that path and I see that Mike has done the same in the past and still does.

I am making my own rainbow now and the pot of gold at the end will be the fruits of my labor.

  21. Hi Mike,

Thank you so much for your insights. You have brought me back to some reality. With the entire internet marketing venue being so new to me, I think that I did not include my own values in what I was trying to create. For instance, I am at that point of completing my blog and website, both. I put in my SOS call to my Renegade coach as recently as last night because of confusion. Your article has brought me back to where I really wanted to start.
I retired as a high school principal last year. People would be astounded when I would bring in product after product into our district principals’ meetings to help the other 20 high schools with interventions for kids. My own staff, who worked for years on interventions to help all students, could not believe I would give all of “our secrets of success” to our other highs schools. My reply would be, “Shame on us if we have this information and don’t share this with other schools, with the result of helping all students.”
Well, you brought me back to why I stayed in education for so long . . . making a difference. I strayed from my initial thoughts of giving value and making a difference, as Lane described, and forgot this part in my new venture. Now I can go back to square one, begin again (with having learned a great deal of the technical aspects from the tutorials already) and really try to help others. That is what it is all about.
Your heartfelt discussion is the catalyst that I needed and it could not have come at a better time for me. I imagine, though, when a person reads something so sincere and meaningful, it is always seems that it was the best time!

  22. Wow! How grateful I am to have come across this community.

Jim Rohn has always said, “work harder on yourself than you do on your job”.

Mike just gave us key areas to do this that will make all the difference.

I was blown away by the article, but then, as I read the comments, I realized that each person was stacking value, upon value, upon value.

Thanks to everyone for the abundance mentality that is so prevalent in this community.

“I’ve gotta make this work”…That’s how I feel right now.

I think that all of us have felt that way at one point or another.

That’s why we tend to chase rainbows. Because we’re desperately seeking that “shortcut”.

That “one thing” that will make all the difference, never realizing that it’s right under our nose.

Here’s to the success of each person that so desperately wants and needs it.

Here’s to preaching the truth…that each of us, are capable of “creating rainbows”.

I think, duplication, real duplication, only happens as fast as we realize this for ourselves and then help others within our teams to realize the same truth.

It’s not an easy process. But it’s worth it. :)

  25. Hi Mike,
I love this piece you’ve written because it is such a motivating piece.

    It makes me feel like I’m not the only one going through a rough time and that rough times help to bring you back to the core essentials of business. In fact, now I have a better perception of what I should entirely focus on, which are;

    * A keen Insight.
    * An ability to influence others.
    * An ability to choose the right opportunities for you.
    * An ability to create and communicate value.
    * An ability to attract people to you through networking and marketing.
    * An ability to cultivate partnerships.

This is the definitely the mantra of succeeding online.

Instinctively this has been my mentality especially in the 4 months I have been with the Renegade Professional. I strongly believe in the Renegade Professional and I strongly believe I am attaining success (almost like I can touch it).

    Also, a formula that keeps ringing in my head is one you so passionately teach, which is this;

Training + Little Action = Nothing

A lot of Action + Little Training = Frustration

A Balance of Training + Consistent Action = Massive Predictable “effortless” Success

Thank for all your support Mike.

  30. Hi Mike,
In part of your article you said: ” I wasn’t ready to look! ” Such depth of meaning and so true for so many of us, ME included.

I thought that if I I kept going over and over the trainings I would GET IT but I was left wondering what I was doing wrong when nothing was happening. Why weren’t things happening for me when I was such an admirer and follower of Mike’s wonderful system.

Finally, finally the penny has dropped and the Essential List will now be my bible . These are things that many of us know and have probably used in other jobs but for some reason we put them in the back of our minds so our work becomes SOULESS and we forget to work on ourselves.

That is where I found myself to be.
This is a real wake up call.

Here is my bible for the future and the skills I must now hone.

    - An ability to influence others
    – An ability to choose the right opportunities for you
    – An ability to create and communicate value
    – An ability to attract people to you through networking and marketing
    – An ability to cultivate partnerships

When we all get these essentials ingrained in our hearts and minds the world will truly be our oyster and a better place to live.

  31. Hi Mike,

I’ve come back to this post several times and each time it has a little more meaning for me in the context of what I am learning each day.

For example, it’s no accident that you choose the word ‘Focus’ when you introduce the ‘essential list’.

Like most people, I am not good at multi-tasking.

It seems to me that I should focus on ‘listening’ (both to my intuition and my target audience) and only then offer value to the best of my ability.

In the past, I have tried to force the pace of my progress instead of following my intuition.

I have listened to my inner chatter, instead of listening to the person I am talking to.

I have not offered sufficient value before asking for value in return.

I have tried to do it all myself without cultivating partnerships.

We learn all these things the hard way, until someone like you points out the obvious path ahead.

Thanks for these valuable ‘insights’ or should I say ‘essentials’!

  1. When Mike said:
“I’m talking about accomplishing everything you want FASTER by making it your #1 intention to focus on the essential list. Are you ready for that?”

I knew I was in the right place at the right time. After a year of bouncing around the net from one system to another, this is home.

We know we have to provide value but what a lot of us don’t know is that value has a “form” in the shape of a “formula”.

Mike’s teachings and example are are providing this formula and forming me into the person that I always knew was there. It only needed the opportunity to emerge.

  2. I just re-read the article ‘Your Influence Factor’ and it had an impact on me. I read it first a long time ago and filed it away in the memory banks but never pulled it out again. I’m glad that you brought it to my attention once again.

Everything you say is ’spot on’ and without ‘influence’ you can’t touch people, attract them to you, or even move forward in the business.

I have seen that personally so I understand the importance of the ‘influence factor’.

I recently attended a webinar about ‘Connecting’ and again, the focus although about ‘Connecting’ is really about ‘the influence factor’, without which, it’s hard to ‘Connect’. Knowing what you have to offer and the value you can share is paramount to ‘influence’.

I really, really needed to go back and read this article again and I’m so glad I did.

The confidence that comes from increasing knowledge and communicating it with others can’t be overestimated.

Thanks again Mike, your ability to teach is inspiring and I’m so glad to be here.

Don’t be fooled, I’m really not in great shape right now…and I have run that hill many many times (when I used to live in Portland for 6 years) so I had a slight advantage.
I’m going to have to make it a bit of a competition with Mike because the one for sure thing about him is when he sets his mind to something, there’s no stopping him, and he’s so determined to be in shape that if I don’t work at it, he’ll surpass me in no time.
    Thanks for your comment,

  8. Using the slow, progressive overload principle of physical training as a metaphor for staying the course with you business. You Guys are GREAT!!! I know I am associating with the right people..this is proof!

  9. This the inspiration I’m looking for…look out for the Buff Boys!

Seriously, it’s time for me to follow suit on this physical stuff.

  10. Mike I gotta tell you I just love how you equate everything you do in life to personal development and business whether it’s making tiramisu with Jerry Chen and Didi or taking a run with Eric you’re always on top of your game, this is what leaders are made of.

  11. Hello Mike -
Today’s email hit the nail on the head. I only wish I had a dependable revenue stream that didn’t require so much of my time and attention to maintain. But it helped me decide where to put time today – and what needs to change. But where to connect with Barbara Silva for the Coaches Corner? I’m having trouble seeing how to sign on for it.
    Thanks,
    Barb

  12. I was thinking the same thing, Kevin.

Always relating back to mindset is such a powerful and attractive form of marketing, ESPECIALLY when you can tell they are really living what they are talking about. No phony-baloney there. That’s just genuine “good stuff.” The kind of people you want to know and be influenced by, for sure.

    Great video.

  13. I watched this one last month, but needed a little inspiration … so I watched it again.

It’s easier to keep pushing and working if you know there’s a downhill, when things get easier.

Watching Mike and Eric reminded me of being out on the trail with my brother (who spends a lot more time on trail work than I do). He always wants to talk … I’m huffing and puffing – I need my air just for keeping up!

  14. It’s all about having a plan and sticking to it. When I was training for a 5K last fall, which was a lot of me, I learned so much about myself and my business. Thinking becomes so clear.

I can hardly wait to become a part of the inspiration that will be taking place.

    Have Fun

  15. Mike,

I love the metaphor and it is so appropriate.
All I can say is you can keep the hill all to yourself…the literal one I mean:)

Metaphorically, haven’t reached the summit yet but am working slowly towards getting there.

    Thanks for the inspiration.

How to Speed Things Up…

How did we do it?  How did we create a multi-million dollar company out of thin air in less than 2 years?

Does it have more to do with being a “Go-Getter” or a “Go-Giver”?

Which is more powerful?

Which makes a business grow at the speed of light?

Two years ago I was learning how to create my first blog.

Now I have a network of them getting tens of thousands of visitors each month, producing thousands of leads to date, and they still roll in.  I don’t do all the work myself… In fact, I post less than 1% of the content to those blogs.

How did that happen?

I’ll share the real secret to ‘fast’  success with you here.

One and a half years ago I was learning how to post my first Squidoo lens, Ezine Article and use my first social bookmarking site.  Now I can take credit for co-founding the #1 training resource for beginners getting started in social marketing.

How did THAT happen?

Answer:

I gave A LOT to others FIRST, and for quite a while, with little or no compensation upfront.  I didn’t jump around… I focused on who I gave to and continued giving.

A multi-million dollar company was ‘magically’ manifested, in LESS than 2 years from the day I ‘got a vague idea’ and started on it.

Now it’s your turn…

You might not want a multi-million dollar company–but it doesn’t matter if we’re talking about an extra $30,000 a year, $100,000, or millions–there’s a way to do it fast–real fast (and by the way, 2 years IS fast when we’re talking about changing your life to be what you want it).

If you’re realistic, you can change things quick.  But to ensure it, you have to ‘get’ what it means to be a go-giver.

In order for this to work, it has to become as crystal clear as a glass of water.  Once that happens, you can’t help but do it right.

So, exactly what DID I do (that you can do) to speed up the success process?

Go-Getter vs. Go-Giver…

Yes, I worked hard.

I ‘went after it’ with a determination and focus that conjures up the image of a go-getter.  But it goes so much beyond that.

Teaching…. Collaborating… Participating Without Direct or Immediate Payment

It was in the “learning something”  that it all started.

I became a constant student… so much it literally hurt sometimes initially.

Stuffing a lot into your brain at turbo speeds is intense.  Overwhelm is a way of life during this phase of it.  This is the go-getter part, but it was always driven by an inspiration to then give it… to pass it on.  To contribute it to other people I wanted to partner with or service.

Often in the beginning I gave my knowledge only so I could learn.

Often I gave tremendous investment, long-term, just to ‘see’ what might happen (again, to learn).

Then, it was in the “teaching what I learned” where I found the secret to stratospheric success.

It was in the ‘faith oriented’  collaborations (working with others without an immediate or clear financial gain) that I found this secret.

It was in my PARTICIPATION that I found this secret.  Here, I’m not talking about just posting content on a social site, commenting, or doing stuff you should be doing–that’s a small piece of participation.

I’m speaking about highly evolved levels of contributing to the work of others… long-term, without losing focus, so I could develop deep relationships and partnerships.

How many times did I spend hours on the phone assisting people when I started 2 years ago?  How many hours invested only to give, learn and grow.

How many times did I spend learning something that was not easy for me to learn, only to share it on a Webinar (often for free).

We built Renegade University to help Ann Sieg sell more Renegade e-books (giving the affiliate commission to others), without asking for compensation or recognition.

Why?

THAT’S the go-giver secret.

Why did I email my entire list and send hundreds of people to Better Networker to assist Mike Dillard and Ferny Ceballos to grow Better Networker?

It’s the go-giver secret.

And guess what?

It worked.

It always works.

It will work for you.  IF you do it consistently, with all your focus, heart and soul totally in it.

In the book, “The Go-Giver,”  by Bob Burg and John David Mann, they teach it.  This is a book that Ann Sieg sent out to her closest friends, partners and employees–I got one in the mail with a little note.

“To Mike.  Looking forward to your input in our Marketing Merge Professional staff book study!” — Ann Sieg, July ’09

It included a letter about how we could choose to partake in a monthly book study that she would help facilitate.  Why spend the time?  It’s again the go-giver secret!

Think of the time investment on her part to put this together… to purchase the books, make sure they’re sent.  To write the letter describing some of her life experiences and to share this idea with us.  To personally hand write a note to each person she sent it to!

Ann knows the secret.

The secret is sprinkled throughout every training tutorial you find in the Renegade Professional back office.

It’s at the heart of what makes our community stand out–and why people are accelerating so quickly in their business development with us… so much so we hardly have time to keep up with them all (though we try to so keep ‘em coming!)

Being a go-giver is at the heart of everything that grows at the speed of light.

Those who are open to this secret can succeed.

Those who are not open to it will struggle.

When I communicate with one of our new students I know immediately if they are open to the secret or not by the way they think.  I can see it in an email.  It’s in their tone and posture.

Some ‘almost’ get it–and these are the people we really work hard to assist.

And that’s the purpose of this letter.

I’m inviting you to become a go-giver within the Renegade Professional community.

There are a number of opportunities to contribute.  You’ve seen plenty of people doing it… and they’re moving forward fast!

Consider joining one or more of these ‘go-giver’ roles:

* Super Guides Program
* Become a Trainer
* Become a Coach
* Become a Content Expert

It may not always be obvious at first what the benefit is to you by becoming a Go-Giver.  It requires a little faith along with the determination.

It requires you to GIVE.  Not just a little.  But a lot.

I highly recommend you pick up the book, Go-Giver, and I’d love to see your story unfold before our very eyes.

I hope to see you become a go-giver here within our community and to help us literally develop out this new industry as partners.

Don’t just be a customer–and don’t just be a student–become a teacher here!

We’ll have more details for you soon about how to become a Super Guide, Trainer, Coach or Content Expert.

In the meantime, you know exactly what to do!

Learn, Teach, Grow, Contribute!

It IS that simple (or that difficult) depending on who you are and your value system.

Choose your value system wisely, it has everything to do with the speed of your success!

Partners in success!

    Thanks for all you share.

  4. Awesome article Mike, You are the true meaning of a go giver and I can’t thank you enough for what you’ve taught me. I can only hope to be able to give half as much as you are and I know it will be rewarded ten fold financially, but I find the best reward is seeing someone I have helped reap the rewards of being a go giver. Thanks

  5. Fantastic article, Mike!

I, too, received one of those special copies of The Go Giver from Ann Sieg. And tomorrow I get to meet her in person for the first time. Who would have thought that was going to happen 18 months ago?

I hitched my wagon to your star in February 2008. I followed while you shined the light to guide me on the path.

By the time I reached the fork in the road, I was ready to make my own decisions and create my own path.

What has inspired me the most about you is that you are utterly, consistently, and completely genuine. I have never heard you veer away from your mission — to help others first. Not even in unguarded private conversations. You are the embodiment of the Go Giver and I am honored to have you as my friend.

  6. Thanks Mike!

As one of the “tortoises” of the RBMP students I just devoured The Go-Giver this past weekend. I thought of you and Ann Sieg so many times during my reading. The book’s message solidified how fortunate I am to be a part of this new wave of opportunity within a mentoring community.

Thanks for sharing your optimism, enthusiasm and expertise. What a gift.

  7. Mike great article, and video. They say “no pain no gain” when it come to physical workout, and that is true when it comes to building any business. Your experience of giving first, and reward will follow, has been an eye opener for many. Thank for setting the example for us to follow.

  8. Yep I am in.It’s clear to me I need to give more.I have over 70 posts on my blog,4 Squidoo lenses,3 Hub pages an SBI website,1500 followers on Twitter,200 Facebook friends,a few on Myspace.I’ve posted Ezine articles and posted on forums, a Blinkweb lead capture page,a video and email boot camp, but still not one sign up, and one person on my list who it seems just wants to sell to me. I feel this neediness for results, which I want to get rid of,and only by giving can I do this.So let me know when this all takes off.

    Thanks

  9. Hi Mike,

I’m going to do something you taught me about reusing content, especially where appropriate. I posted this on the book club blog, but I feel belongs here as well.

I once again find myself wishing that I could find the right words to adequately say, Thank You.
Your introduction of this book as well as providing the forum for a continuing dialog is well…… inspired!

To be inspired is to be in Spirit and this book has taken me there.
The promise of the Go-Giver’ is that if we are willing to give that which we seek, we keep the abundance of the Universe flowing into our lives.
And when we choose actions that bring happiness and success to others, the gift we receive is happiness and success.

In the Ancient Wisdom Traditions this concept is known as Dharma.
Dharma is a Sanskrit word meaning to follow your bliss or passion, while maintaining an attitude of, how may I help, how may I serve.
Given all the “Added Value” we have received, especially in the mentoring program, it would only be the truth to say; you Mike, Ann and the whole Renegade family are living the promise of the Go-Givers, you are truly in your Dharma.

    Your Friend and Student,
    Tom Renfro

  10. Hi Mike,
I knew you were a go-giver from the first tutorial I watched and heard your voice. It is right there in your voice. However, I didn’t know to how much or to what degree you were a giver until you told us in the above awesome article. Loved every nano-second of it. You do have the secret. It can be summed up in this principle of the universe–You reap what you sow. Your time of reaping is here! Enjoy all the harvest that is coming your way.
The library called and the “Go-Giver is in and I am on my way to pick it up right now. Can’t wait to read it!

    My Best,
    Dee Briggs
