It’s the ULTIMATE success story.
Please listen carefully to Curt Johnson as well, knowing he’s been a successful coach and businessman for years. Curt was Ann Sieg’s coach not so long ago before she discovered her own voice and brand. He’s also her upline!
I’ll be sharing more details with you as I get them.

Mike,
Doubt is an interesting word and it’s important that you have used your doubt to reflect. Doubt might often be confused with ‘fear’ and they are far different.
As you said, you used your doubt as a trigger to reflect further and what you discovered was a deeper trust in yourself. This is so important as many of us don’t trust ourselves enough.
Your authenticity comes through and its because of this that so many people have come to know, trust and believe in you.
Like attracts like. So when you give us examples of people like Claire and Curt…how could they be anything but authentic?
Coaching Cognition will be an excellent platform for those people who have ‘kept their light under a barrel’. They will shine ever so brightly and help so many others along the way.

Hi Mike,
I love what you said about ‘being authentic’ and ‘loving what you do’. There is definitely a struggle in process of finding your authentic self as well as your own unique brand in business.
However like you have put is so nicely the ultimate success is being able to be your authentic self, love what you do, give value to others as well as receiving value from others.
The coaching cognition program will be a place to experience all of those things and more. I have had the privilege of being coached by one of the coaching cognition coaches Eric Walker. It was a great experience.
I know if people are willing and ready to take their business to the next step working with a coach will help them become empowered personally and in their business building efforts.
I am also interested in becoming a coach with Coaching Cognition and am very excited about the program. Hearing the testimonials from others and their experience of taking the course is extremely encouraging.
Thanks to you and Barbara Silva for providing this wonderful opportunity.
kind regards,
Ness,

Hi Mike,
I really loved this article and related to it on a number of levels. At the moment it seems people are fairly jaded by big launches but I doubt that people will ever get jaded by excellent service and the feeling that they are genuinely cared for.
Perhaps your way is not the way to get quick results but I’m sure they’ll be long lasting.
I built my acupuncture clinic one relationship at a time. I never advertised, never did any sort of marketing, and never even did any follow up… I just CONNECTED with each person as they came in and soon enough I had a busy clinic.
I’m certain if my focus was to implement a formula for building a clinic rather than the relationships being first and foremost my clinic would not have grown the way that it did.
Interestingly, I recently went through a period that was emotionally taxing and that meant that I was not connecting with my patients as I normally would and I noticed the difference in my business. As I started to feel better I immediately started to CONNECT with people and referrals started flooding back in… immediately.
I feel that the kind of business that comes from referrals due to happy clients brings with it good karma that can not be achieved through marketing, from my experience these are the best people to work with.
I love marketing and appreciate it’s power and importance in business but I also believe unless a business is built on the bedrock of CARING for the people that actually make being business possible (customers and clients) than marketing isn’t worth much at all.
Your insights and genuineness are always a breath of fresh air.

I’m deeply touched by what you have written in this post Mike. So much so that I am very close to tears.
I read your ‘Finding the only shortcut…’ post and the Essential List, which I now have printed out and reflect upon daily. In that post your story conveyed so powerfully how The List emerged out of your own struggles and experiences.
When I read your latest email a few moments ago I could hardly believe that you were writing about a process that I have been going through for a while now. I have been in that space of ‘self-doubt’, searching for my ‘voice’, the Brand of Me. It’s a lonely space to be in and having someone else suddenly reach out and say “I’ve been there too” – well, it nearly done me in! The tears whelmed up because I knew you ‘understood’ what it was like to be in that space.
My self-doubt emerged as I was creating my website. Finally, against the advice ‘don’t keep tinkering…move on’ I took down all the pages I’d written & took two-thirds off my homepage. I knew it was the right thing to do. And then, once I’d cleared the decks, my ‘look and feel’ began to emerge and then ‘my voice’. As you say ‘doubt and trust’. I had to trust that I would recognize ‘my voice’ when I finally heard it – that I would know my ‘look and feel’ when I finally saw it.
Being a member of Renegade Breakthrough and Renegade Pro has been such an amazing, joyful experience for me. It is an experience in which I am constantly touched by the honesty and ‘giving’ that is conveyed by everyone involved with Renegade. I recently read DiDi’s post on Better Networker where she shares her experiences after reading The List. Her beauty, both inside and out, shines forth and warms us all.
My deepest thanks to you all for being who you are and sharing that with us all.

It’s a shame that internet marketing beginners fall for systems that seduce by promising “easy, fast and simple”. I was no different.
But a system can only take you so far. There is a point when you need to actually talk to your prospect.
A lot of people are afraid to do this and they hide behind the system. What they don’t really understand is that fear can be overcome just by learning the skill one needs to talk with confidence and posture.
That’s why I’m really looking forward to the Coaching Cognition course, so I can learn the skills I need to be more effective in my interactions with people and especially those that seek help from me.
I really appreciate your honesty and “realness” Mike as this helps me to realize that “yes” I can also do it. Mike did and still does!

Doubt vs. Trust – This is actually a topic I want to develop in our coaching training.
Often, we place negative or positive values on something and leave it at that. At first glance, doubt would be a negative and trust the positive.
But as you pointed out here, doubt can serve it’s purpose. It made you stop, reflect, and get clear on what you were doing before plunging in.
As coaches, we help our clients to examine both the positives and the negatives. If we are experiencing an emotion, like doubt, it’s good to find out exactly why it is there. Doubt, in this case, didn’t mean you were on the wrong track. But it caused you to focus on what it was you really wanted to do and why you wanted to do it. That’s powerful.
I shudder to think of the loss to us all if you had not taken the time to understand this. Some people experience doubt and use it as a reason to quit. Thank goodness, you didn’t.
Trust is a good thing…so long as it has been authentically earned. We’ve all trusted someone or something and found the trust had been misplaced.
You build trust – for me that is your brand – precisely because of what you have done in this article. You don’t just go out and “sell.” You share your process, your thinking and your goals.
Coaching Cognition has grown out of the trust that developed between you and I. You inspire me every day!

Mike,
Gosh, I’ve a true awakening this week, though I don’t know why it has taken me 6 months to “get it”. As a result of your previous post, I’ve been revamping my blog to reflect a place where marketers can get good information, rather than focusing on telling them all about my products and business opportunity. This post was right-on with the timing for me. Thank you so much for your insight, wisdom and honesty!

Thank you Mike!
You clearly speak from within – who you really are. That means more to me than any marketing strategy or tactic out there. I have a tendency to question myself (doubt), and also the intent of others.
Every time I read your emails or hear you speak on videos and tutorials I know that it is you I’m listening to – the real you – the person who clearly likes helping others. For me, that creates trust. So I can feel, now more than ever, the importance of coaching – coaching with heart. Even from the printed word it creates a connection that is truly exciting.
And it is also clear that you attract people who are of the same heart like Barbara Silva and the Marketing Merge Team. Being a member of Renegade Professionals has brought me to a place of knowing I can build a business that fits me.
I’m sure I would seriously benefit from the Coaching Cognition program. Even though I’m still progressing through the action guide, is this program something to consider now?

Mike,
Having read your article I feel that it is your authenticity, thought, and speculation that has made both you and Ann a success. The so called “formulas” are just that: formulas, with no heart or soul. Personally I shut down when I receive them, and rarely read them through. I may not be a “successful” business woman as yet, but it has been through my soul searching that your system resonates with me. I have received numerous emails and marketing program sales pitches but there has to be the authenticity and personal emotion behind the words. Don’t lose the feelings you have, they are there for a reason. Success comes in its time to those who remain true to themselves.Comment by Wendy MacKay — September 30, 2009 @ 10:35 am

Mike,
It’s so “you” the way you describe the conflicting formula of doubt and trust.
I really never thought about how they work together to help us make our best decisions. Again, it’s this type of insight that helps us move forward and trust our own instincts and find what works for us, not someone else.I’ll just add, as one of Coaching Cognition’s new coaches, it’s that little bit of helpful doubt that makes me strive to be a better coach and not just rely on what I already know, even though I totally trust my decision and the path I’ve chosen.

Doubt + Trust = Personal Discovery and Greater Levels of Ultimate Success
Well, Mike, you’ve hit the nail on the head again. You are definitely in your power as a mentor and business coach/trainer.
You well know the ebbs and flow of self doubt I have journeyed through. I am finding a centre of strength and absolutely looking forward to working with Barbara and Coaching Cognition to build that out.
Long ago, I learned to trust you. When the systems failed, you didn’t. The kind of authenticity you demonstrate here is a common thread through the years. I think you are spot on listening to your gut in regards to the marketing process that will work best for you.

Julie – developing coaching skills will help with your marketing and customer relationships even if you are not yet ready to actually become a coach at this point.
For me, I knew coaching was what I wanted to do because of my lifelong love of helping people in this particular way. Follow both your heart and your “gut.” They will tell you what is the best timing for you!

Barbara,
Thanks, that answers my question. Helping and interacting with people is an important and exciting part of the business I want to create. I know listening is important, but I also know it’s much more than that and I don’t have much experience from a business standpoint.
You are right. For the last two years I have been learning to listen more closely to my heart and gut – that inner knowing – and it has served me well. Things just seem to fall into place and I am now learning skills I never thought I would be learning. When I saw your webinars on coaching I couldn’t stop thinking about it. It feels both exciting and a little scary. It is obvious to me that it is of great value.
Thank you

Several Responses in Reading this…
“- Loving what you do”
- While the good money flows inward
- And the value you offer flows out”Yes, and I think I would add: “loving what you do and why
you do it.” And you’ve reflected here and elsewhere you
desire to help others as a major motivating factor. In other words, a true heart-felt “why” can motivate us in
so many areas. Like, for example, from your “why” for
sharing the emails and moving forward with Coaching
Cognition.“I’d allow the ‘marketing’ to unfold on its own
spontaneously.”I took that as flowing from your “why” and, frankly, loved
reading it.“Instead, I focus on CONNECTING with people who really need
what we offer but just don’t know it yet, and then on
effectively COMMUNICATING what we offer so they totally
‘get’ it.”Yes, in fact I appreciated listening to Dean Caporella
yesterday relative to having the perspective of the other
person in mind while writing articles. Again, viewing things
from the needs, wants and desires of the other person –
along with my heart’s desire to truly meet those needs –
and then communicating my heart whether in a written format
like an article or a series of emails. Neat blend! On another point…
You mentioned Claire’s “authenticity” in her talk. Yes,
actually I took that in last evening and thought the same
thing. Simple, straight forward communication from one
person to another sharing how Barbara has helped her.Now there’s a “talking point” for anyone:
1. Simple.
2. Straight forward.
3. Sincere.(I feel an article coming on, lol!)
In fact, I went from listening there to Claire to one of her
training videos in Renegade Pro.And, of course, Barbara has already been a real
encouragement and help to me as I travel along this
“attraction marketing path.” A definite “Go-Giver.”Thanks for sharing these, Mike. I’ve already made a file
for this one and “the essential list” one in recent days. I
plan to review them again.I hope you all are able to assist many in reaching their dreams,
Lee

What a benefit to have the payment stream handled by the back office of Marketing Merge.
How much simpler can it get than that for both parties?

My baby daughter was there.
I was there.
If only I knew then, what I know now.
But who hasn’t said that before?
I remember my mentality back then…
“I ‘gotta’ make this work.”
And judging by my circumstances I was right.
It was an all-too familiar and uncomfortable condition for me in business back then.
I hadn’t yet learned about the only REAL shortcut that exists.
I Chased Rainbows.
Little did I know that the pot of gold was in my own backyard.
What a stubborn one I can be.
That stubbornness has served me in one way at least (never, ever quite–right?)
But it has also cost me dearly, with a mentality that seemed to say–
“No, not me… I don’t have to work on my listening and communication skills, or learn how to lead. I’ll find a much easier way to succeed than THAT.”
If only I knew how hard that would be, trying to find the EASY way.
Because…
Looking for the “Easy Way” is the Hardest Way of All.
And, you could say…
What Most People Think to be the “Hard Way” is Actually the “Easiest”.
I read personal development books.
I went to leadership trainings.
But I never made it my #1 thing–not back then. I just thought I did at the time.
There I was at 30 years old with my six-month old daughter in my lap.
Chasing the dream from home.
Barely making enough to make ends meet.
I’d made more (much more) from home before that. But then it had shriveled.
I’d worked hard before… real hard.
And then after burning out–after working like a mad-man from age 22 to 27 (chasing all the bogus shortcuts most people still chase), I “checked out” for about two years as soon as the income was high enough.
–Burn Out–
I played catch-up on life.
The color returned to my face.
I smiled more without trying to.
I started a family.
I caught up on what I had been missing while ‘building the dream.’
But then, after watching my income slide back down I found myself in familiar territory…
“I gotta make this thing work!”
So I was working feverishly again… and had been for about a year since returning from world travels, reflection, and a bout with getting healthy and fit (I had needed to do that after the 5 year focused business effort).
I was really stressed out–working, working…
Trying…
Sitting with my six month old daughter beside me, trying to find the ’shortcut’ again. Trying to live up to my ‘big words’ to family and friends, most of whom had forgotten I was a winner.
Trying to justify my commitment to succeed.
The Million Dollar Chapter Comes…
But within a year from that challenging time, I had figured a piece of it out (the marketing part) and I started attracting business in a BIG way… though I still hadn’t learned how to keep it. I had to go through a very labor intensive learning process because I was still looking for shortcuts in all the wrong places.
By age 31, I had attracted over a million dollars to my new company within the first month of launch and had people joining my networking business before I even had time to make the first follow-up phone call. That was 6 years ago.
It was nice, though there was still plenty of stumbling (as I was still learning what I’ll share with you today).
It was actually quite rough… but it WAS a great experience because it forced me to finally–eventually– realize and take the only REAL shortcut that exists… the very thing I was avoiding the entire time because I thought it would be harder, when it was actually much, much easier.
If only I was getting emails like this.
Fast forward 6 years, I now head up a growing multi-million dollar enterprise. Solid, stable, growing incredibly fast. Enjoyable. In alignment with my values and intentions.
From struggle to now business bliss, I have learned and lived the only REAL short-cut there is, and how to get people to not just stand in line to join my business… and not just stay… but to duplicate in ways that extend far beyond what I imagined possible.
Finding the REAL Short-Cut… And Taking It.
I have always looked for the shortcuts, which would have been great, if only I was looking in the right place.
In my earlier years in business, I was constantly trying to use some new system to generate leads for me. Or to ‘qualify’ them for me. I even worked hard to create such systems.
Its not that there wasn’t value in what I was doing, and in qualifying prospects and using systems to help–that IS a small part of the equation. But this aspect of it is SECONDARY to what is most critical for one’s success.
Here’s the “Essential List” most avoid making their #1 priority in business:
Focus on Developing…
* A Keen insight
* An ability to influence others
* An ability to choose the right opportunities for you
* An ability to create and communicate value
* An ability to attract people to you through networking and marketing
* An ability to inspire others by truly connecting with them, by listening
* An ability to cultivate partnerships
You CAN develop these things rather quickly, but only if you make that your main aim.
The list is so alien when you’re not ready.
Its like hocus pocus.
It might even be scary.
It makes success seem really far away. But that’s only if you’re not ready to take responsibility for it.
The truth is that when you look at this essential list square in the face, that’s when success gets close.
That’s when you’re getting warmer.
Then, if you don’t take your eyes off this list… that’s when you get hot.
Attractive Marketer Hot.
Doing so puts your butt on the shortcut… The only REAL shortcut you’ll ever find.
I Wasn’t Ready…
I wasn’t ready to look until I had worked so hard for so long trying to bypass ‘the list’ of essentials, that I finally just stumbled into it here and there, over time… over a long period of painstaking time because I didn’t know it was IT.
I thought it was just “part” of it.
Somehow I had exhausted everything else and I just decided to focus only on that list for a while… that was about 3 years ago.
I buckled down on ONLY it.
I connected with the right coaching, training and people and developed my skills (the essential list) as QUICKLY AS I POSSIBLE COULD.
I did it because I had to. I was exhausted. It was that or admit failure. And that’s not me.
This is where my stubbornness helped.
And maybe its why I relate so well with the majority out there who struggle… because I was on that path with such intense determination for so long, avoiding the essential list just like most do.
My Point In All This?
My message to you is that it doesn’t have to take you as long to find IT as it took me.
It took me a long time because I was stubborn in believing the B.S. because I wanted to believe it, just like many people reading this want to believe that a system is the answer.. and not you. You don’t want to follow through on this advice because you’re like I was… you’re where I was.
But some of you will move on it. And that’s who I’m talking to here.
Don’t get me wrong…
The vehicles you use (the opportunities, systems, etc) ARE important obviously… but they are motionless without the list of essentials above.
Like pushing a car uphill versus stepping on the gas and zipping down it. That’s what I’m taking about.
I’m talking about finally being able to navigate yourself from where you are to where you want to be with absolute control, safety, comfort and EASE. Every time with ANY system.
And…
I’m talking about accomplishing everything you want FASTER by making it your #1 intention to focus on the essential list.
Are you ready for that?
You are already addressing some of this if you’re moving through the Start Here Checklist in your Renegade Professional back office.
But are you consciously addressing the entire list head on?
Is it your #1 aim?
There are 5 things we’ll be introducing to you over the course of this fall and winter. You’ve likely heard about some of them already. Mysuggestion is to study what they offer you.
They are:
1. Coaching Cognition
2. The Live Event in January
3. Super Guides Training & Collaboration Program
4. PBN (Becoming a Trainer for the Professionals, Businesses and Non-profits section of Renegade Professional)
5. Renegade Professional News — Pay close attention to the students who grow in this community. Connect with them. Know them.
Infuse yourself into the leadership here.
First, see how others are developing their brand & gaining exposure by closely aligning with this open community… then follow in their footsteps.
We’re creating an ever-expanding economy here that you can take part in.
Pay close attention to these 5 development opportunities over the coming weeks and months–each is designed to help you attack the “essential list” and take the only REAL shortcut there is.
Take a moment right now to learn a little more about each of those 5 collaborative opportunities by clicking on the links above.
Success doesn’t have to be hard.
But it will be if you don’t take a very proactive stance to attack your essential list head on.
Here it is again:
You Must Have…
* A Keen Insight.
* An ability to influence others
* An ability to choose the right opportunities for you
* An ability to create and communicate value
* An ability to attract people to you through networking and marketing
* An ability to cultivate partnerships
You have to initiate all this.
It’s all on you and it always will be.
But the people and assistance is here if you’re ready for it.
Partners in success,
Mike Klingler

Great article Mike,
What I Love About You Mike is How You Have Helped our Family
I’ve been more of the supportive one – supporting Eric Walker, my fiance, and helping him build his business (credibility and influence).
I have been the one quietly looking over his shoulder. I have been the one whispering in his ear, and I have been the one with a listening ear during those “truth moments” when he’s feeling worn out or between a rock and a hard place – those “crossroads” moments as we call them.
And through it all, you’ve been there with us.
And THIS has made it a short cut for us.
Eric is a natural teacher (like you), but he doesn’t have 14 years of business experience that has created gobs of wisdom. But what he does have is — what he’s always been smart about — is studying what you do, listening closely to what you say and model…etc.
So, when you highlight this essential list…
A Keen Insight.
An ability to influence others
An ability to choose the right opportunities for you
An ability to create and communicate value
An ability to attract people to you through networking and marketing
An ability to cultivate partnerships…I feel like you’re bringing EVERYTHING home that Eric has been working toward for the previous 14 months (14 months as opposed to 14 years – Now that IS a short cut!).
And the beautiful thing about this is that because I’ve always looked over his shoulder, I’ve been attracted to your teachings as well, and I’ve picked up on things that maybe Eric hasn’t or have seen things from a different perspective.
Not only do I get to tuck that under my belt, but I can also teach Eric what I see. And there have been a good number of times when my insight has helped Eric tremendously also.
Do you see how this has helped our family! I have to think that the family I see forming in the Renegade Professional community can be just as influential under the roof of all the families – husbands and wives and children! It makes so much sense, both in business and life.
I’ve enjoyed a lot of your articles, Mike, but this stands as my favorite – never have I heard your voice come ringing out so clearly.
Thank you for all that you do. I can’t wait to meet you next week!

If I knew half of what I’m learning from you guys 11 years ago, it would have certainly saved a ton. However I won’t look back, but will move forward with what I’m learning and apply it too.

Mike,
One person I have seen following you who truly embraces these principles is Barbara Silva. Not only do I consider her a great coach, mentor and friend, but she is a shining example of someone who has followed your wisdom, as laid out above, and applied it in a way that makes sense for her. The result is a new service which I believe has the potential to revolutionize the coaching industry.
I started following Mike around the same time Barbara did, I believe, and he affected me in a similar way. At some point, his wisdom really started to sink in. I stopped chasing the rainbows and started to wonder…could I MAKE MY OWN RAINBOWS? It seemed crazy at the time, but I started to believe in myself more and more, through the feedback and encouragement from members of this great community of people I was learning with. I started to really “GET” where all this was headed, and started to see myself as taking an active role in the movement. Not just going along for the ride, but taking a turn at the wheel. I started to realize I could do more than make money in this industry; I could make a DIFFERENCE.
Now I am working on my own business concept, which, like Barbara’s, builds on the concepts that visionaries like you and others have already laid out. I believe my concept will help to move the industry forward and help it gain more widespread acceptance.
My greatest wish of all, though? That someone finds my business, taps into all the resources like what Barbara, Mike, Ann and others have developed, and then develops their OWN improvements, to help others and improve this industry, this economy, and this world we live in.
Critics of people like you and Ann say that what you do isn’t duplicatable. I disagree, and say what you are starting to see is evidence to the contrary. True, you aren’t seeing cookie-cutter clones plugging in to the easy-to-follow systems that “guarantee” success. What you are seeing, though, are people focusing on those items on the list Mike just posted to create their own path to the end of their own rainbow, and all the success that comes with it, not just a pot of gold. What you are starting to see are people duplicating what really matters.

The Essentials list is evidenced in Mike Klingler’s life. His story sums his journey to discovery of these truths and Mikes’ business, Marketing Merge and Renegade Professional is now testamony to the reality.
- An ability to influence others
– An ability to choose the right opportunities for you
– An ability to create and communicate value
– An ability to attract people to you through networking and marketing
– An ability to cultivate partnershipsI have decided that Mike Klingler is the trainer/mentor that I am focusing on. I have learned over the years of working with him in some of those hard times that his integrity, giving work ethic is steadfast.
@Eric comments: “Deep value is making this realization … if you’re not solving people’s problems or giving them what THEY want, you’re not in business. This is why you see people who’ve been at this internet attraction marketing thing for so long, and haven’t gotten any results.
You have to figure out:
1). What you love i.e. what you want your business to be, and
2) How you can make that your business – in this case, the term “business” is giving people what they want, and at the same time, being really passionate about giving that to people.
This is how you become an expert.
And to be successful in anything, you have to be nothing short of an expert.”
Mike has become an expert because he is doing what he loves and has found a way to solve problems in a niche market.
Being a part of Renegade Professional and Marketing Merge pushes me to discover much about myself.I certainly know that I am more of an ” expert” now than I ever was outside this training centre.
I look forward to becoming all that I can be. To giving to others all that I can and take joy in that.
Thanks Mike for being steadfast, Pat

Chasing My Rainbow
You’ve done it again, Mike. Taken something so personal to you and shared it with everyone. I guess that’s why I feel like I’ve known you for a long time!
I can so relate to the stubborness you describe. So many times, I have chased a dream only to find out it wasn’t my dream. What makes perfect sense to me at this stage of my life is to grab hold of the opportunities that are right for ME!!
Being a mom, wife and nurturer by nature, I find I too often compromise myself and this ends up being no fun for me or my family. Not any longer. I am keeping my eye on this list you have so eloquently put out there for the community. It’s a great list that I read to begin my day and the last thing I read before retiring.
It takes confidence, perseverance and the ability to learn from prior mishaps to become a better person and marketer. I think I’m ready to take that next step and ready to have others follow!
Lead by example, Mike, and you have set a wonderful example for the rest of us.

Great article and one point I noticed is that you stated “I Wasn’t Ready…”. Many of us were not ready either, and then one day something clicked and we saw that we had to change if we wanted to really be successful. Hopefully your article will cause people to take note and see if they are ready.

Mike,
Wow! This article truly said it all, “Chasing Rainbows”. I don’t know what it is but I think we are all wired up for the “short cut.” Only to find out much later in life there is no such thing as a “short cut.”
Everything is based on what you said:
* A Keen Insight.
* An ability to influence others
* An ability to choose the right opportunities for you
* An ability to create and communicate value
* An ability to attract people to you through networking and marketing
* An ability to cultivate partnershipsAnd once that’s found, the moment arises. And the story is told…
Thanks, Mike for sharing and opening your heart…

Mike, You found what you love to do and the money is coming back to you…the pieces are coming into balance. I, too, believe, that it was keen insight, and choosing the right opportunity for that started me on the path to create and communicate value for that opportunity.
Now continuing to develop the 3 essentials: to influence others, attract people to them through networking and marketing and partnerships are the next ones to concentrate on in a stronger fashion.
Thanks for these reminders of your success, Mike.

Mike, you have away with words that paints a picture of success. Many who go into the home business industry think if they have the right product or service that people need, they’ll make money.
The essential element to success that you listed, didn’t come naturally…. No matter what business we
are in there will always be a competitor, otherwise
the likely hood there isn’t a market. Even the other people in ones MLM are your competitors. Thanks for reminding us of the essential that we must continue to develop and improve on.

Essentials Eliminate Overwhelm
Mike,
As usual you put your heart and soul into everything you write and do and what’s even more special is that you do it more for others than yourself.Your ‘Essentials’ list is so focused that it can and will help those of us who often spend much of the time in the land of ‘overwhelm’.
It is a laser beam which points to those things that are most important to the success of anyone’s business.
Thanks again for helping me to focus my laser beam on what is truly important and which will serve up success.

Well put, Mike. And so many great comments from others too.
Lane talks about the right way to put the ideas into action and ‘live it’ (in his comments above). He is building out his own business concept, not just for personal gain, but with the desire to make a difference and help others. What a perfect example of someone that gets it, implements it; he’s “duplicating what really matters”.
***
When I look back on my own path, I realize that chasing shortcuts was such an expensive approach. I needed money, so I spent money on the latest, greatest, super-shortcut that promised quick, easy cash.
No quick, no easy, no cash … just less money. The worst part is that I was most susceptible to buying another shortcut when I really needed the money and could least afford to waste it!
But the most expensive thing about shortcuts is that you are buying a ‘rainbow to nowhere’. Not only is there no pot of gold at the end, but it takes you off course.
Time. That is a much bigger expensive from chasing rainbows and taking shortcuts than actual dollars spent. Nothing to show for the efforts, AND I’ve got to take the time to get back on the right track before I can even start to make progress. The opportunity cost is tremendous.
You’ve hit all the right buttons with this one, Mike. Continuous investment in myself, my skills, and my focus on connecting with and helping others – it’s the right way, and the quickest way, to success.
“Little did I know that the pot of gold was in my own backyard.”

I’ve read through this article a few times and the Essential List captured my attention each time. So much so, I copied it down and pinned it up near my desk.
Also, the article rings so true for so many of us. Some of us have harder heads than others. I’m convinced it’s the first step toward testing your entrepreneur mettle. After all, if your determination and commitment is there, you will bust through this, too.
And, of couse, Mike, your humaness shows through, as it always does. Your commitment to go-giving is something to strive for.
Glad to be on your team.

Hi Mike,
Your post really hit home with me, like a laser beam shot to the head and heart. You basically went through my story and you gave me insight into the path that I am on. And that path is the “before” path of your story. As I have learned from you in the past year there have been moments when the cobwebs and smoke have been swept away and I see the vision. This article was one of them. Thanks for sharing this as it will really help me moving forward.

Chasing rainbows are for those that really don’t know themselves.
And yes, we have all been there at one point in our lives.
Rainbows are still attractive but life experience and knowing who we are inside reveals the emptiness of chasing after them. That’s why when opportunities come along that will help me grow as a person, I take that path and I see that Mike has done the same in the past and still does.
I am making my own rainbow now and the pot of gold at the end will be the fruits of my labor.

Hi Mike,
Thank you so much for your insights. You have brought me back to some reality. With the entire internet marketing venue being so new to me, I think that I did not include my own values in what I was trying to create. For instance, I am at that point of completing my blog and website, both. I put in my SOS call to my Renegade coach as recently as last night because of confusion. Your article has brought me back to where I really wanted to start.
I retired as a high school principal last year. People would be astounded when I would bring in product after product into our district principals’ meetings to help the other 20 high schools with interventions for kids. My own staff, who worked for years on interventions to help all students, could not believe I would give all of “our secrets of success” to our other highs schools. My reply would be, “Shame on us if we have this information and don’t share this with other schools, with the result of helping all students.”
Well, you brought me back to why I stayed in education for so long . . . making a difference. I strayed from my initial thoughts of giving value and making a difference, as Lane described, and forgot this part in my new venture. Now I can go back to square one, begin again (with having learned a great deal of the technical aspects from the tutorials already) and really try to help others. That is what it is all about.
Your heartfelt discussion is the catalyst that I needed and it could not have come at a better time for me. I imagine, though, when a person reads something so sincere and meaningful, it is always seems that it was the best time!Comment by Phyllis Emrich — September 30, 2009 @ 6:58 am

Wow! How grateful I am to have come across this community.
Jim Rohn has always said, “work harder on yourself than you do on your job”.
Mike just gave us key areas to do this that will make all the difference.
I was blown away by the article, but then, as I read the comments, I realized that each person was stacking value, upon value, upon value.
Thanks to everyone for the abundance mentality that is so prevalent in this community.
“I’ve gotta make this work”…That’s how I feel right now.
I think that all of us have felt that way at one point or another.
That’s why we tend to chase rainbows. Because we’re desperately seeking that “shortcut”.
That “one thing” that will make all the difference, never realizing that it’s right under our nose.
Here’s to the success of each person that so desperately wants and needs it.
Here’s to preaching the truth…that each of us, are capable of “creating rainbows”.
I think, duplication, real duplication, only happens as fast as we realize this for ourselves and then help others within our teams to realize the same truth.
It’s not an easy process. But it’s worth it.

Hi Mike,
I love this piece you’ve written because it is such a motivating piece.It makes me feel like I’m not the only one going through a rough time and that rough times help to bring you back to the core essentials of business. In fact, now I have a better perception of what I should entirely focus on, which are;
* A keen Insight.
* An ability to influence others.
* An ability to choose the right opportunities for you.
* An ability to create and communicate value.
* An ability to attract people to you through networking and marketing.
* An ability to cultivate partnerships. This is the definitely the mantra of succeeding online.
Instinctively this has been my mentality especially in the 4 months I have been with the Renegade Professional. I strongly believe in the Renegade Professional and I strongly believe I am attaining success (almost like I can touch it).
Also, a formula that keeps ringing in my head is one you so passionately teach, which is this;
Training + Little Action = Nothing
A lot of Action + Little Training = Frustration
A Balance of Training + Consistent Action = Massive Predictable “effortless” Success
Thank for all your support Mike.

Thank you Mike, you are 24h a day present in my head. You are sharing rainbows, false shortcuts and burn-outs with us and many of us do identify with your story. You are sharing the Nº1 Essentials List with us which we will take by heart and follow. But how will we ever be able to create the link between business and the thoroughly human touch you are bringing into it ? That will be the real short cut we will have to find for ourselves.

Here are the words to show I’m on the right path. I went to the Get Motivated seminar last week which was amazing! I saw short cuts and when I really thought about it I realized there is no short cut. You have been saying that since I have been reading your emails the last year. Thank you for all you do Mike.

Hi Mike,
In part of your article you said: ” I wasn’t ready to look! ” Such depth of meaning and so true for so many of us, ME included.I thought that if I I kept going over and over the trainings I would GET IT but I was left wondering what I was doing wrong when nothing was happening. Why weren’t things happening for me when I was such an admirer and follower of Mike’s wonderful system.
Finally, finally the penny has dropped and the Essential List will now be my bible . These are things that many of us know and have probably used in other jobs but for some reason we put them in the back of our minds so our work becomes SOULESS and we forget to work on ourselves.
That is where I found myself to be.
This is a real wake up call. Here is my bible for the future and the skills I must now hone.
- An ability to influence others
– An ability to choose the right opportunities for you
– An ability to create and communicate value
– An ability to attract people to you through networking and marketing
– An ability to cultivate partnershipsWhen we all get these essentials ingrained in our hearts and minds the world will truly be our oyster and a better place to live.
All thanks to Super man – Mike Klingler

Hi Mike,
I’ve come back to this post several times and each time it has a little more meaning for me in the context of what I am learning each day.
For example, it’s no accident that you choose the word ‘Focus’ when you introduce the ‘essential list’.
Like most people, I am not good at multi-tasking.
It seems to me that I should focus on ‘listening’ (both to my intuition and my target audience) and only then offer value to the best of my ability.
In the past, I have tried to force the pace of my progress instead of following my intuition.
I have listened to my inner chatter, instead of listening to the person I am talking to.
I have not offered sufficient value before asking for value in return.
I have tried to do it all myself without cultivating partnerships.
We learn all these things the hard way, until someone like you points out the obvious path ahead.
Thanks for these valuable ‘insights’ or should I say ‘essentials’!

I’ve seen excitement about it everywhere – from Twitter to Better Networker.
Well done in not only CREATING VALUE with this certification program, but also COMMUNICATING that value.
Know that we are in full support of your efforts, and stand ready to assist in whatever small way we can. Proof-reading, proof-listening

I am also happy to share with you that my daughter, Kendall, has come on board and is lending her considerable expertise in helping to create some of the materials you will be receiving as a part of the training. Kendall has an extensive coaching and counseling background. As she likes to say, she and I are “so related!” and it has been an absolute pleasure to share with her our vision.

When I started about a year and half ago, I had no clue what marketing online was like. It has been a sobering but also exhilarating experience and continues to be so.
Now that I have found a home as a Renegade super guide and understand the importance of giving more value than I take, I want to share my experience with others and help them to cut out what’s not important and focus on what’s real for them.

I have read that Winston Churchill, had prepared his famous quotes in advance, waiting for the right moment to deliver them. I do not know if it is true or not, yet I intuitively happened on to this one that perfectly describes my feeling when, you Barbara, offered the Coaching Cognition Certification Classes.
“All People occasionally stumble across the truth, but most pick themselves up and continue as if nothing had happened” Winston Churchill
I knew that I didn’t want to ‘stumble across the truth’ and act ‘as if nothing has happened’ ….
I would say to anyone else that feels that intuitive pull…. to get on board with Coaching Cognition… because I believe you have stumbled across your truth..

What a wonderful quote, Tom! I’ll have to keep that one handy. And isn’t it true?
I have become keenly aware of the doors that open. I know they must have always been there, but I never saw them before. Things really started to happen when I plucked up the courage to walk through.
Now, I get to stand at the door, waving others inside.
Lee, “excellence in action” is what I see in our community as well. Rosemary, and Marie, Warren, Patty, Bolaji and Donnalynn – your very names are bringing up for me the image of excellence.
I look forward to learning from each one of you.
And here’s my quote to share…I found it on one of my favorite teacher sites: A teacher’s (coach) purpose is not to create students in his own image, but to develop students who can create their own image. -Anonymous This is what Mike Klingler does every day!

I’m grateful and proud to have been a member of the first coaching class.
I remember first hearing about the opportunity and being immediately excited by the vision … or what I knew of the vision at the time. What I knew then was more than enough to get me involved.
What I did not anticipate was how much I would learn from interacting with other people in the group. Every single person is an expert in their own right and brings experience and perspective. The learning opportunity is much bigger and broader than I realized at the beginning.
Coaching Cognition keeps growing, not just because more top quality people are getting involved every day, but also because Barbara continues to define the scope and communicate the vision.
I look forward to seeing, and interacting with, the new coaches coming on.

“there comes a point where you must know how to effectively communicate or you limit yourself”
This is true not only in marketing, but in life relationships.
I love my girlfriends who speak piles of good and sometimes hard things into my life to make me a better person.
I know that participating in Coaching Cognition and being another person “leaning” on Barbara’s “post” is going to be a journey, sometimes hard work, but worth it all.

Hi, Barbara: I am looking forward to being a part of Coaching Cognition! I believe this is my “niche”. The importance of having a coach to help me in my business is crutical in moving forward and it is only a given to help others do the same. The two webinars you gave us at Renegade Professional this summer were awe inspiring. You have a way with words and inspiring others. Thank you, Babara. Can’t wait for the classes to begin!

Hi Barbara,
I’m just finishing up my last year in graduate school for Physical Therapy. I have my undergrad in Business Administration so your coaching program is a perfect blend for me to coach Physical Therapy Practice owners. I’m excited about your coaching and can’t wait to get started.
Thanks for all your hard work Barbara.

I see some questions about the live calls — I am very mindful that we have members from all over the world. I will be offering different time slots to accommodate time zones.
For the calls themselves, I use Skype. Once in a while the call drops, or there is an echo, but it has been very reliable and it’s very easy to immediately call back in should someone get dropped off the call.
I’m also recommending a headset and microphone like logitech. There is a button which makes muting and unmuting very easy – this is important when there are several people interacting on a call. The headset also allows my hands to be free to take notes!
Thank you all for your continued feedback. We should be getting this show on the road within the next few days!

You are offering (above) a free coach training webinar but once in, you ask for $49.99 which is a turn off to say the least. Feel free to delete this comment if you wish. I just wanted you to know that it is not a good idea to go about it in this manner. We have so much to read up with the genuine offers that we don’t need to be chasing after trojan horses. Not to say that the course isn’t good and profitable but why do must you resort to such juvenile manipulation to get one to sign up? I already bought “The Renegade Marketer” from Ann Sieg. From what I had time to read thus far, she sounds like a great person, genuine and very upfront. I don’t think that this would be her idea of smart marketing.

Yes, if someone would like to plug into our community there is a cost so we can operate the business and offer free resources like tonight!

Teri,
I get it.
There was a bug on this page:
http://renegadeuniversity.com/event/coachingskills/After you submit the contact info on that page you are supposed to see the webinar FREE. For some weird reason, which no one can now explain to me, there was only an order form there to join Renegade Professional.
Bad mistake on our part… it worked initially. When we changed servers recently some think that caused this.
I am sending an email now to everyone on that list to make sure they can access that webinar.
Yah, that kind of a strategy would not work to generate sales. Ugh. Not good. It is now corrected.
Thanks,

Having attended all the Webinars and having examined the full extent of the course, I have absolutely no doubt that Coaching Cognition will offer exceptional value. Relative to what a lot of other inferior products cost out there, the price is amazingly low. I am also pleased to see that there is a reasonable payment plan.
I am a paying member of Renegade Professional with a lot of prior teaching/training experience. I also realize I have a lot to share and give back with others, so am positive Coaching Cognition would be one of the best things for me to do to help facilitate this.
I have yet to become what I would consider a successful home business owner so using the skills I do have together with what I would learn as a Coaching Cognition coach would I am sure be an ideal way to make some additional income apart from the home business option.
With all of the above said, I can’t do it, even at the low price. As low as the price is, it’s still a relative figure and to me I just don’t have it. I would love to be able to find the money but I cannot run up any more debt as I have done enough of that on this journey.
I am sure there are many other people in the same situation as me so I was wondering in the future whether “Marketing Merge” would consider some alternative avenue for those of us who are totally cash strapped and not even able to afford the low price? I have three ideas –
I am thinking that perhaps you could offer one position on the course as a competition prize. The competition could be anything from making a video, writing a response or even coming up with a landing page ‘dummy’ which the entrant would have to use to explain why they should be chosen as the winner. I am sure this could also become a great marketing awareness tool for Coaching Cognition.
A second idea is that “Marketing Merge” could offer a ’scholarship’ type award of one position on a course. Those wanting to be considered would have to demonstrate in some way what they had done to give back to others for nothing and in so doing qualify to be considered for the ’scholarship’ position.
Thirdly maybe a “pay forward” option of being sponsored up front and then as a coach paying back the fee. In other words paying back more to Marketing Merge than the current structure in place for paying students.
Well thanks for reading this anyway. The course looks great. All my best wishes to those involved.

A while back I wrote about ‘Influence Factor’ – it’s a missing piece to the success puzzle I notice most overlook. That’s what makes it so important for you to review (again if you’ve reviewed before).
Everything we do here at Renegade Professional and Renegade Breakthrough Mentoring Program is to develop your ability to influence. So that regardless of what opportunity, business, or circumstance you find yourself in, you can make whatever it is you want to happen HAPPEN.

When Mike said:
“I’m talking about accomplishing everything you want FASTER by making it your #1 intention to focus on the essential list. Are you ready for that?”I knew I was in the right place at the right time. After a year of bouncing around the net from one system to another, this is home.
We know we have to provide value but what a lot of us don’t know is that value has a “form” in the shape of a “formula”.
Mike’s teachings and example are are providing this formula and forming me into the person that I always knew was there. It only needed the opportunity to emerge.

I just re-read the article ‘Your Influence Factor’ and it had an impact on me. I read it first a long time ago and filed it away in the memory banks but never pulled it out again. I’m glad that you brought it to my attention once again.
Everything you say is ’spot on’ and without ‘influence’ you can’t touch people, attract them to you, or even move forward in the business.
I have seen that personally so I understand the importance of the ‘influence factor’.
I recently attended a webinar about ‘Connecting’ and again, the focus although about ‘Connecting’ is really about ‘the influence factor’, without which, it’s hard to ‘Connect’. Knowing what you have to offer and the value you can share is paramount to ‘influence’.
I really, really needed to go back and read this article again and I’m so glad I did.
The confidence that comes from increasing knowledge and communicating it with others can’t be overestimated.
Thanks again Mike, your ability to teach is inspiring and I’m so glad to be here.

Hi, coaching is talked about everywhere it seems these days. Our President in his first ‘State of the Union’ speech talked about the need of 100,000 coaches needed now. Even Tiger has had coaches. What a project to get started in the ‘Renegade’ world. I’m surprised that I’m making what appears to be the firest comment. I think we all should be shouting it from the top of every hill, now. Come take a look and join us now. I’ve been in sales for over 40 yrs and have never had a coach, I’ve done what could be considered coaching all thru those years without anyone ever talking about what coaching is or how good or bad the coaching was. I joined the International Coaching Assocation several years ago and I have no idea what they do, why because it wasn’t about my coaching it was what they thought it was, are we going to change that?
Can’t wait for all this to get going. Thanks Mike and Ann your efforts could change everthing. MJComment by Marshall Joyce — September 18, 2009 @ 9:48 am

Lane,
Your presentation of “We, Inc” is such a great conceptualization of a manner of collaborating, branding and working that many of us have been doing for a long time. But you have put into very concrete words and a concrete form with the development of Renegade Referrals.
Collaboration, coaching with a true emphasis on the needs of others, entrepreneurship and long term residual income in my opinion will form the corner stones of the 21st Century Economy. “We, Inc” encompasses all of that.

Lane & company,
This mindset is a tremendously needed part of the puzzle that has caused many well meaning internet marketers to struggle & spin their wheels.
As an experienced coach & trainer to the network marketing industry for several years I know the real deal when I see it.
What you have put together is destined to be internationally renowned for the growth & success to the hordes of people in every aspect of the network marketing indusrty looking for help to experience greater levels of success.
I especially like the subheading “We, Inc.” Leverages the Power of “You, Inc.” to Make it Work for You.
This sums up the tremendous benefit of associating with & connecting to those with an abundance mindset built on the principles of integrity.

Someone asked me the other day, “Isn’t ‘We, Inc.’ the same thing as…a corporation?” In other words, isn’t a corporation just a grouping of individuals coming together to work on a common vision, and the whole is greater than the sum of its parts?
Well, this is partially true, but “We, Inc.” differs from a traditional corporate business model in a very important way. The leverage goes BOTH ways in “We, Inc.”. That is, the group benefits from the collective efforts of the individuals within it, and the individuals leverage their individual projects through their association with the group.
As I stated above, if the individual isn’t given the platform to shine in some way through their association with the group, then it is not what I would consider “We, Inc.”
From what I’ve seen so far, the Coaching Cognition and Super Guides programs certainly qualify. Of course, I am making every effort to ensure that Renegade Referrals adheres to these same standards.
“We, Inc.” IS the next phase in the evolution of how business is being done. WE has arrived! (and that IS proper grammar)

Hi Lane,
It has been wonderful to be part of a group of people all with a common goal. You, Inc can be such a lonely place, not to mention so much harder. When a bunch of people all come together for one goal, the outcome is so much greater. I love being a member of We, Inc.
Thanks for the inspiration, Lane.

Hey Lane:
Love your message here.
You lay it out so clearly for us – many thanks for that.
WARREN BUFFET is quoted as saying…
– “There is no such thing as a SELF-made millionaire”.
NAPOLEON HILL (’Think And Grow Rich’) has said…
– “We need the support and leadership from a TEAM of people who see the same vision that we do – our MASTERMIND group.
When we reach larger and larger levels success and prosperity, it virtually impossible for us to be a ONE PERSON show (YOU, Inc).
WE, Inc is indeed about COLLABORATION and the beauty of LEVERAGE – but it also needs to be about OPTIMIZATION (the extended economy of ‘time’).
Great comments above.
Sincerely / Peter A.

Hi Lane “We, Inc.” is such a beautiful concept. I was first introduced to it as a therapist and found it particularly powerful when working with couples.
I love the way you have described the concept so clearly to show how it is applicable to the business world, the internet and Renegade. I found your point that ‘everyone must pull their weight, and add to the value of the whole’ particularly valuable when thinking in terms of JV partnerships.

Lane, you articulated “We, Inc.” well defining the collaboration of the Renegade Super Guides program, the Coaching Cognition program, and your Renegade Referrals program. From individuals, to an actual program, wow.
In the past, my experience with collaboration in a group was really effective when people just listened to each other first and just brainstormed. That is one of my favorite stages of the collaborative process. The creativity that comes out is so fun. The “We, Inc.” makes work fulfilling.

Lane,
Great job communicating these concepts – you are exactly right. The real power and leverage comes from joining with other like-minded individuals all pulling toward a common goal.
It may be possible to make progress, maybe even enough progress, working alone … but with the solo approach, success is either unlikely or very tiring!
A quick comment about the corporation question you fielded. First, I agree with you that it is NOT the same thing. “Corporation” does not equate with “We, Inc.” in so many areas.
I just wanted to share one idea on that topic.
Corporations are often a ‘zero sum’ game, meaning that for one individual to do better, another has to do worse. Raises, promotions, and other examples are easy to see.
In “We, Inc.”, one individual doing better creates a better reality for another individual. Co-authoring, Group publicity with individuals highlighted, and other examples are easy to see. Completely different approach, and outcome.
Personally, I am actively looking for “We, Inc.” opportunities!

@Peter: You make a great point about optimization. It is an important aspect of the “We, Inc.” model, because it eliminates a lot of the redundancy which inevitably comes from many individuals applying the “You, Inc.” concepts to their own businesses.
@Kisane: I would like to learn more about how this concept was introduced to you as a therapist. Was the term, “We, Inc.” actually used, and was it in the same way? I would not be surprised if my idea was already out there, in some form or another. I just hadn’t seen it expressed in this way before.
@Michael: If you are truly interested in a “We, Inc.” opportunity, you would always be welcome over at Renegade Referrals. We should talk soon.
I think it will be helpful to create a short video presentation of the “We, Inc.” concept, in order to illustrate the difference between it and the standard corporate, “zero-sum” model. I will do that soon, and post a link here when it is done.

Lane,
What a super job of explaining ‘We Inc’. What I particularly like is how you explained the point of difference between our version of ‘We Inc’ compared to that in a corporation. I hadn’t even thought of comparing the two but it was a good question that was asked.
I think for many of us, although we have mostly worked with other people in our traditional jobs, hardly any of us have worked with others to benefit and support each other. We were a bunch of individuals who just happened to work together but not to help each other move forward in the organization.
‘We Inc’ as we are embracing it is far greater than many might think possible and I would also imagine that there might be some skeptics out there. All I can say is ‘Watch this space’ because the sum of our parts is so much greater than our individual selves.
‘We Inc’ has arrived:)

The neat thing about Renegade Referrals is the trust in each other and value-based marketing developed in the process of “WE INC”.
Imagine how positive the experience will be to say to the prospect you are engaging with: “you know, I think your needs will be better met working with…let me know how that works out.” !
I think it will be a first time ever and this kind of value marketing will get leverage.
thanks Lane and team for making it happen.

This is the great thing about the internet and how it has changed traditional business structures. Everyone now has the option of participating in a collaborative effort with like minded individuals of there choice.
Yes building your YOU,Inc is a necessary task when branding yourself as a leader. But the ultimate success comes from bringing like minded together WE,Inc as you say.
From here it’s then a communicative process of moving these like minds in a positive or could be negative, direction to the desired goal of the group.
No one person can do everything, but by collaborating and leveraging individual talents of the group WE,Inc can move mountains.

It would seem that this recession has brought about a lot of soul searching by a lot of people. Their confidence has been knocked, their belief in the ‘normal’ structures such as government, waged work, banks has been severely tested, and people have become very concerned about what to believe, and who to trust. The supposed experts are now being exposed as ordinary people, and hopefully the ordinary people will start to see that their ideas, skills and opinions have value.

Hi Lane & Co,
You show that there is no contradiction in being all “You Inc.” and at the same time being committed to, contributing and working in “We Inc.”. It is even the contrary. You need to be your true self and being that find the perfect match and then develop together. I love it the way you put the words. Being a coach in the non-virtual world I am pritty much living that concept without having it labeled in this great way. But on the internet I still have to learn a lot to be that, too. What motivates a 24 year old programmer to leave his social circle to work and live with his coworker (and business partner)?
You’ll find out that and more in this 26 minute interview I conducted with Blaine Glynn and Candace Hogan.
Candace happens to be Blaine’s mom and is also the Customer Support Manager for 80/20 Marketing along with giving a hand in the Renegade Professional customer support department.
You’ll be surprised to learn that money — yes, while necessary and needed — actually ranks pretty low for what motivates Blaine.
I think he gets the formula for success.
He’s become very results focused and is willing to make sacrifices to make that happen.
While he does have a four year degree in computer science that’s got him trained as a kick-butt programmer he’s since learned the value of becoming self-educated.
It’s all about going out and finding the resources to make things happen.
You’ll also hear him talk about his primary source of inspiration and influence. (No, it wasn’t one of his college professors.)
In this interview you’ll find one thing we’re pretty big on at Marketing Merge Professional is inter-generational learning and business development.
Take my own company as an example. It basically started with me and my son and then bringing my husband into that partnership.
This inter-generational business building is a trend we’re going to see more and more of and we plan to be a big part of that.
Listen to our interview and let us know what you think!

What really makes this community so great is the emphasis on family.
Who are we without a family? It is where we establish an identity and face what life throws at us with strength and encouragement.
It really is inspiring to see so many young entrepreneurs working closely with others in their own family to create something bigger than themselves such as what Ann and her two sons are doing right now.
And seeing that Ann is ready to have other family units join their energies to hers just shows how she practices what she preaches.

Family is probably the number one reason the majority of people get into a home business. They are tired of missing their kids events, having to travel and being gone for days or weeks. Many times this is more important than the money.

I was wondering what the ‘connection’ between the two were and the mind came up with all sorts of things:)
Welcome Blaine and it’s wonderful to see family members working together and what’s more having them ‘want to’. That says a lot about the family dynamics.
As others have mentioned previously, this company is unique in how it is so much family oriented and not just that, but the members are individuals and make contributions that are clearly their own.

Very happy to see Candace and Blaine tell their story. Family is important and it is critical to balance family priorities with career priorities.
Of course a good way to do that is to weave family and business together!
My daughters have worked with Melana (my wife) and I in our business. It is extremely satisfying and I would jump at the chance to do it again. So far, it has always been short-lived – home from college for the summer, etc.
I’m going to send a link to this video to all 3 of them … just to plant a seed. You never know.
One thing that jumps out at me from Candace’s story is that it was mutual – all the players wanted to be in business together. Also, it became a reality when Blaine made the decision to join. No pressure or expectation, just opportunity.
I admire how you all bring your family values to your business.

Although, at the age current age of 7, my son hasn’t made a life long commitment to being my partner, he does enjoy making videos with me and telling people that my “job” is working on the Internet. Wow, it is my dream to enable my sons to be entrepeneurs. Not necessarily in business with me, but to realize the fulfillment of building our their dreams from home with their families.
This emphasis on family values is another reason of many that I solidly align myself to Renegade Professional and all things associated with this leadership.
Ann Sieg has done a fabulous job of modeling what she promotes among her family and associates. Thanks Ann for that.

I Don’t Know You!
It’s extremely hard to sell something to someone you don’t know, remember those old school marketing tactics from years past it was pretty frustrating back then. But now it doesn’t have to be.
Building a business online is not that much different than building one offline people like to do business with someone they know and trust and building relationships is a huge part of that. Nice article Cindy.

Discover the Guaranteed Way to Differentiate Yourself and Determine Success or Failure with Internet Attraction Marketing
Be honest with yourself, are you a “Newbie” or a “Smart Beginner?”
Some would call you a “Newbie.” Maybe that is how you’ve referred to yourself.
You have never experienced making money online and no internet marketing (or much business) experience whatsoever.
This is where almost all of us start…
And even the concept of attraction marketing is exactly that, just a concept…
In all honestly, what you probably know most is that you have an urge like gravity to sink yourself into the booming internet economy, and flex your entrepreneurial spirit so you can live a better life, and achieve financial freedom.
Sound familiar?
If so, keep reading, an important point is to be made here.
If you mess up here, you will fail before you even begin a successful and profitable internet attraction marketing venture.
It can be hard for someone to locate an ideal starting point when beginning from scratch.
But let me offer you this very important, yet subtle difference between those that reach success, and those that never do. This is the difference between being a “newbie” and a “smart beginner.”
But first, realize that every successful person has had to start from scratch. Every successful business person has had to start the long journey at the foot of their mountain of dreams.
This starting from scratch is often referred to as being a “newbie.” That’s what we call these start-from-scratchers.
It refers to someone who is absolutely new, and doesn’t know much about anything with regard to marketing their brand, their company or their products on the internet.
But More and More, There is a Subtle yet Profound Difference Between What Would Normally Be Called a “Newbie” and What is Now Being Coined, “SMART BEGINNER”

Eric, when you wrote:
“It can be hard for someone to locate an ideal starting point when beginning from scratch.” no truer words were spoken.Unfortunately, many people just launch themselves without a plan, without educating themselves and then sit back wondering why they don’t succeed.
Fortunately, those that belong to the Renegade Professional community, don’t have to worry about that. Planning and education are the critical first steps being taught that can lead anyone who has the desire to learn and apply what is learned, an undeniably successful online marketer.

Eric,
This is such a great article. As I talk to more and more people I find that many are and always will continue to search for the next best and greatest thing. I did when I first started then I realized, I have it all here at Renegade Professional, all I needed to do is work smarter not harder and implement my education that was in front of me.We all need a plan, a business plan, ever changing but always having the same goal in mind. Being a true entrepreneur is having that plan so that we can be proactive in our businesses and not reactive.
“Newbies” will always be reactive, till they figure it out and become smart entrepreneurs.

This article has been a great reminder. I tried some other “great” educational material I found on the Internet, promising faster success. All I actually found was frustration, overwhelm and myself spinning around in circles, trying to learn this new, “better than ever” program.
Renegade Professional has and has always had all the resources I need to have a marketing system set up and running. Newbie or Smart Beginner? Now, because of trial and error, I am and will continue to be a Smart Beginner, with plenty of stick-to-it-ive-ness.

It’s human nature to want thing to happen quickly when we get into our first home business. Most people need the extra money, and buy into the hype of over night success.
It doesn’t happen for most people, so the only true success comes from never giving up, and accepting from the beginning you must learn what it take to become success in what ever business you want to get in.Comment by Rallie Rallis — September 26, 2009 @ 6:30 pm

Eric,
So many times the teachings in the marketplace don’t even touch on the “smart beginner”.You mention in your article that is “linked” at the bottom of this article – a smart beginner (even when we have started again) decides what “value” we can give and finds “skills” to develop that will help to grow their business (among many other things). One of the things that attracted me to Renegade Professional was the “how to” do marketing, which other programs lacked.
Thanks, Eric, for reminding us of these ideas.

Eric,
Once again a worth while article to read. For me it was a re-awakening, remembering that I am a ’smart beginner’ and no longer a newbie.
I’ve read all the othes’ comments and the value there is evident as well.I think it is easy sometimes to lose sight of what’s important for our success and to focus on what will postpone the success we all desire so much.
Thanks again..I needed it!

Eric, Eric, That’s really right on. A smart beginner can see the journey of learning, growing, giving to be just as valuable as their anticipated success.
A smart beginner can apply all those lessons to any endeavor and expect to be successful. Where as a newbie on the fast track may rise quickly and fall harder with no expectations of longevity.

Thought-provoking, Eric … and excellent linked article.
Good distinction between Newbie and Smart Beginner.
One thing I kept thinking about are all the people who don’t associate themselves with a beginner label because they’ve been working at it for a long time.
I’m thinking these are the ‘born again’ or ‘converts’?
I’m actually a “re-Renegade” myself. I found the Renegade system, played with it a while, dropped it and went wandering around in the desert, as it were, until I finally found … Renegade.
The longer you’ve been doing something a certain way, the harder it is to start over. The same is true of online marketing, especially with all the options out there – once you’ve picked a ’system’ you want to ‘work it’ and give it a chance.
I’m happy to be a Renegade, or re-Renegade; the concept of Smart Beginner is not one that is discussed too much outside this, and related communities.

Wow. You’ve summed it up beautifully.
The ‘newbie’ term tends to have a negative connotation. You’ve just created an alternative that is much more attractive and descriptive of what it will take to persevere through the early stages of learning internet marketing!

You’re absolutely right, Eric. The smart beginner starts at the same place everyone else does. It is possible to become noticed when there is consistent focus in the learning process and applying the lessons. A smart beginner quickly becomes a leader when they in learn offer to teach others what they are learning–extending value to their teams.

MY GOODNESS!
This newsletter could really be sold as an off-the-shelf magazine. I’ve had to “bookmark” several areas, to go back and review!
So general feedback – KUDOS and PROPS to the folks that put this together. It’s top-notch, and obviously took concerted effort. Well done!
I’m looking forward to the January event. Veeery excited about that. Let me know how I can help on any volunteer roles.
Those were great features on Curt Johnson, Becky Joubert, Mike Wilson, and Warren Little!
(Go-Giver is probably my favorite book of the year. I think I’ve given away a dozen copies! LOL! Hope my wife doesn’t read this…)
Having Jerry Chen on-board, is fantastic. Jerry’s Magnetic Network has excellent interviews. Jerry is known, liked and trusted across several on-line communities (including BetterNetworker).
So the dream team here at Renegade-land / the Marketing Merge Multi-verse continues to expand. Well done – nice acquisition.
This comment is getting long, so I’ll stop here.
Eric, Didi Kaitlin and team, keep up the great work with the newsletter.
Keep living your best life.

Great job on this newest addition of the Renegade Professional News, guys! It was an interesting, informative and exciting edition to read through. Loved all the video and features.
I remember the first mention of this project, listening in the background of the conversation between Mike, Didi and Eric. There was mention of a WordPress site, and Didi’s recent ownership of the URL “RenegadeProfessionalNews.” Before I knew it, Eric was busy writing, scripts were being created; a bi-weekly or monthly email newsletter turned into this big beautiful spread before you.
This is a perfect example of follow-through. When the Marketing Merge Team gets an idea, they turn it into top-knotch reality.
Proud to be associated with these bright, “Go-Giver,” minds(I read the book too – couldn’t put it down),

I am very impressed with the wealth of information available here, you guys. It is exactly what I have been looking for actually–a way to stay on top of all of the new developments being made in the many different programs offered through Renegade Professional.
The tendency with most companies that experience growth is to leave people behind in the dust. But you have a way of bringing everyone along for the ride that I really appreciate and love about you.
Since starting with Renegade Professional and Renegade Breakthrough, my business has soared to new heights. But the growth has not just been with my business–it has been with me personally as I realize how much I have to contribute as well.
Before Renegade, I wasn’t sure I really had anything of value to share. But as I have developed in the areas taught here and opened my eyes and ears to things, my confidence has grown to the point that I am ready to give.
Thank you for all that you do! You will definitely be hearing and seeing more from me.

I was touched to the core with Ann’s comments on Curt’s contribution to her life/business and his own personal ministries in life. These values resonate with me. Ann’s comments to maintain a balance in the core four areas of our lives is always a good reminder to me and cements my confidence in my association with this community.

@Bolaji – I am really looking forward to meeting you at the live event here in Portland. We will have a great time. Thank you for your offer and we will make sure we take you up on it if need arises.
@KaitlinRose – You are so right, that’s really how things work around here. I have been so impressed ever since I met Mike Klingler and started working with him. I was introduced to a completely new and different world. The first time I saw a vision that has been outlined on a whiteboard just a few short months before that, actually being manifested into reality was a huge event for me. It was the beginning of me truly believing what my favorite quote from Napoleon Hill says: “Whatever the mind can conceive, it can achieve”. Get ready for witnessing a lot more ideas, get turned into top-notch reality.
@RanaBurr – We are always really excited to hear from people who have made progress by being plugged into our training. Renegade Professional and The Renegade Breakthrough Mentoring Program has definitely helped a lot of people just like you gain the confidence and take their business to the next level. It’s really cool though how you put it together “my confidence has grown to the point that I am ready to give” and we are witnessing this already by the excellent tutorials you are contributing with, in the back office of Renegade Professional. Thank you, and we hope to see a lot more from you. You definitely have a lot of value you can contribute.
@WarrenLittle we are also very proud to have you in the family!
@PatCampbell – yes the balance between the four core areas is essential for a fulfilling life journey. I love that Ann shared with all of us about an important mentor in her life journey and how Curt has helped her get in touch with those core areas and create a balance. I am excited about our Coaching Cognition training and platform coming out this month with Barbara Silva and many many other different coaches. There will be mentors and coaches for everyone and every topic. No matter which core value one is trying to get in touch with and help create balance with the rest, they will have a coach they can trust and rely on who can help them with that. Just like Curt did for Ann.

Responding to Mary (above),
Hi Mary,
In the Start Here Checklist inside your Renegade Professional Back Office you were introduced very early to a training that addresses that topic. It’s called “An in Depth Look on How to Personalized and Customize Your Training Plan.”
But I’m going to assume you already watched that, I’m going to ask you to reflect on this for a moment…
If you were a Professor at a major University and one of your students asked you the same question, referring to how they felt about all the options, opportunities and work found throughout college campus, what would you tell them?
I’ve had time to look at some of your content today and it looks to me that you’ve nailed the mechanical piece of your business. You’ve gotten online, you’ve got a blog, you’ve got video, ect. Great. Step 1 accomplished. Now it’s time to work on your influence factor, and the essential list we’ve talked about. (Leadership Skills.)
I have a suggestion for you:
Find a coach who suits your needs. Be open and willing and you may transcend the world of learning mechanics and tools and enter the soulful world of moving others through inspiration. No system, college, tool or other widget will remove the need to know how to influence others.
Join Barbara Silva’s coaching program. It addresses this all head on.
You CAN do this.

Thanks Mike for your reply. Sorry about the slow reply. I think you are right. Maybe later I can do a training for you, in regard to “finding yourself” as part of the process. I did start this process extremely enthusiastic, and to date that enthusiasm has not changed. Two things I think would be worth sharing. One is the point that you have made at times in the video is that we each have to find our own niche, brand , message that we want to put out. It probably gets confusing for people when they see you go ahead and create an article, or lens promoting Renegade. It can be confusing in knowing how much straight education info you need to include in your blogs etc to help people to get online. As you would have seen, I have a site that is designed to encourage people to ‘follow the beat of their own drum’ and if they want to do that online and make money through marketing that is great.
Another point is that I learn in the process. I have taken time as I have worked out what message I want to give, and then figure out how to turn that into something profitable. The format for my blog took a two hour conversation with someone also into online marketing about my message, then a whole weekend coming up with a clear picture of what I wanted.
in the last 2 weeks, the feeling of drowning has subsided as I am seeing some good results and input from people I have met online. It is important to me that I succeed as I love what I do. It gets me out of bed an hour earlier in the morning, and I do this all day. I love it.A little advice for those who are struggling is to work out where you want to go, and do not look at all the thousands of options on the marketingmerge site. They are all fabulous, but right now, only some of them are right for you.
I will definitely be taking the coaching course.

After hearing from many of you who are planning to attend, we’ve confirmed that our first Live Event in
The PBN area of Renegade Professional helps a wide variety of business fields market their businesses online by teaching how to leverage using internet attraction marketing.

I am so priviledged to know that my name is on the list for Coaching Cognition. I listened to both Claire’s and Eric’s comments on their experience with the beta phase of this program. I know that their lives are forever changed.
Eric coached me for a season and I can vouch for his very targeted, yet intuitive ability to get to the core of the matter. Eric was able, because of the skills he acquired in Coaching Cognition to zero in on the central area of development need.

Not Getting Paid to Coach? You’re Probably Not that Valuable.
With Coaching Cognition, I learned how to be valuable. I fit myself into the Coaching Cognition platform, and now I’m getting clients sent to me who pay.
Now I can call myself a coach.
Before…
I was one of the people who called themselves a coach.
We see it all the time, it’s in their profile descriptions at the Social Media locations. It’s sounds similar to this:
“Hi I’m First Last, an internet network marketing coach and consultant. Get coaching from me and I will teach you attraction marketing lead generation so you can leverage the power of the internet to build your online business the most effective way possible.”
With so many people saying that, unless you’re really IT, you won’t differentiate yourself and be an active coach.
Trust me – I went that route for months. Sure, there were months where I’d have a few coaching clients, but nothing predictable.
Then I decided to join Coaching Cognition because I wanted to be a REAL coach, who’d gone through REAL training with a “coach of coaches” who had received REAL coaching training.
That’s Barbara Silva. And that’s Coaching Cognition.
You can also find more about Coaching here for your convenience:
Webinar #1 Developing the Coaching Mindset
http://www.marketingmerge.com/backoffice/videos/CoachingMindset/presenta...
Webinar #2 Get Paid to Coach

Upon going through the Coaching Cognition training, my confidence grew, and I realized NOW I’m a real PAID coach.
It’s already amazing, the Coaching Cognition platform has been sending me paying clients who already know who I am and want to receive coaching from me.

Some great information here for those wishing to get into coaching. I think its important to be clear on what you want to achieve.
Do you really want to be a coach? That could be coaching others on how to be successful but your business may revolve entirely around coaching.
That works well for solo-preneurs who can coach and get paid an hourly rate and also package their knowledge into information products and thus create some passive income.
Coaching alone is still only trading time for dollars so its really important to be clear on what you want because the odds are you will attract it if you stick with it!
In Network Marketing I’ve found that you very quickly see how valuable you are as a coach. You either get paid as a professional or you run your business as a hobby.
This course will be a brilliant asset to those who really want to develop coaching skills or even perhaps those who need to discover whether they have what it takes or have the passion to be a generic type coach.
For example I love the Network Marketing model of coaching because its fast paced and very focussed. I don’t enjoy the coaching where I get paid by the hour because it reminds me too much of a job. I get asked to do consulting work and I actually turn it down but am very happy to consult with people on the right direction for them when they become a team member or affiliate with me.
Its funny but just goes to show that we are all unique and need to find our passion as Mike always says.
Keep the good stuff coming guys! You inspire us all to greater things.

Coaching skills are important if one wants to build a lasting Network Marketing business. Everytime we sponsor a new person into our business the coaching, and leadership must start right away to retain ones team members.
Coaching Cognition training is a great idea.

Over the past two years, I have found that I really have a passion for teaching and coaching. Of course, what I have been doing is mostly natural skills and what I have learned on my own. I am VERY anxious for the launch of Coaching Cognition so I can learn how to do my passion the right way.

I believe the coaching cognition is the best thing for me because of all the skills you learn.
People can recognize when somebody has true coaching skills and that’s what’s so great about this program.
It set’s you apart as a leader that can help others in making a dream really come true. Look at the people that have learned how to coach from this program. I know enough about most of the people that have gone through this program that I wouldn’t think for one moment they couldn’t get me where I want to be.

@ David Arnold, I would encourage you to follow the links within this article. Barbara Silva has two short videos explaining Coaching Cognition. You should have an opportunity with them to submit your name for the next class.
The links to recorded videos of participants provided are excellent also.
Hope that helps you get more insight on the program.

Even if you don’t want to be a paid coach, good coaching skill will help you build a successful MLM business, by know how to lead and coach your downline.

It’s all about helping others in the best possible way that you can. Then why wouldn’t a person want to learn how to coach? It’s a win-win scenario.

Even if you don’t want to be a coach, this class will help you so very much in your business relations as well as your personal relationships. Click on the links above and listen to Claire and Eric tell of their experiences. I was in the first coaching class with them and totally agree with them!

Barbara has been a mentor for me, even thought we have never met face to face, I had the good fortune to interview her a few weeks ago and she is definitely a coach’s coach.
I have patiently waited for these sessions to start; we are just a few days away. As with everything else Renegade has had to offer thus far, this will truly be the frosting on the cake for me.
I thank you so very much for this chance!

Coaching is something you are either good at or not. Many try to coach without any idea how to share their unique skills. Some who gain knowledge and experience failure in their chosen area of interest turn to coaching as a way to redeem the time they put into learning. DO NOT follow a coach unless they have been successful in their area of expertise. I spent many years in direct sales of financial service products and met many manager/coaches who failed at selling and were no better at coaching new people. The best coach is one who has failed his/her way to the top of their field. These coaches know how to be successful. So the bottom line in selecting a coach is finding a successful individual who also has developed leadership/ coaching skills. NOT ALL SUCCESSFUL PEOPLE MAKE GOOD COACHES! SO Develop your leadership?coaching skills before attempting to coach others! Good coaches gain satisfaction from helping others, false coaches only care about the monetary return for time. Are you willing to enrich other for the satisfaction of seeing them succeed in life and business?

I have been busy studying all these weeks, months. And I enjoyed everything, Ann, Mike, David (Garfinkel) – and now I am finally beginning to feel ready. Need to take some pictures of myself, We have created a company, new email addresses etc. I will start with the Marketing merge profile, and web (Living with a purpose). And then my own web. And I really would like to study coaching!! But I live in Brussels, Belgium, so I can not interact with the other students (time zone difference). Do you have a solution ?
Comment by Arlette Stanley — November 4, 2009 @ 12:45 pm
Hi Arlette,
I’m pretty sure they’ll be quite a few others from your time zone (or close to it) in Coaching Cognition.
I wouldn’t be surprised if Barbara will be able to facilitate you!
Email support@marketingmerge.com and ask that very question. She is an amazing person who seems to always find a way to help someone make it work.

The idea that we should “find a mentor” or “find a coach” has been in the MLM tradition for quite a while. A number of the guru MLM books give that advice. Finally, we have Renegade Professional merging the best of internet marketing (check!), network marketing (check!), and now coaching (triple check!). The merge grows. So what is the role of a coach or mentor – I took a stab at that here: http://www.squidoo.com/FindaBizCoach
